GOAT but you’d better make reservation one day in advance for the customized foods. Impressive Shanghai cuisine, born and raised in Shanghai, Jeff’s cuisine made me feel home. This is what called authenticity. I came from Chicago but can’t find any Shanghai cuisine can compete with Jeff’s kitchen here. Gotta give it 💯

Highly recommended Google has negative point so that I can give them a fair review.

The worst place I’ve ever been to in my life for a restaurant. We felt terrible the moment we walked in. It was like the boss was trying to kick us out. He kept asking us, “How do you know us?” and “Why didn’t you make a reservation?”

Normally, when I go to a restaurant, they at least offer some water. Don’t even think about it here. They didn’t even give us a seat—just left us standing outside, even though the whole restaurant was empty.

The boss kept asking again and again where we heard about them. It honestly felt like they didn’t want anyone to know about the place. It was strange—like they were hiding something , I even started wondering if they were doing something illegal, because it felt that abnormal for a restaurant.

Don’t come to this place unless you want your whole day ruined.

The food is amazing, and it is totally reasonable that it requires reservations and pre-order the dishes.

Very rude, only come here if you want to be yelled at.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. Upon arrival, the owner demanded that my entire family stand beside the front desk to order before we could be seated. When I asked if we could sit first and then order, he replied condescendingly: “Don’t you remember? I just told you—order first, then we check whether they can do it, then you can sit.”

I don’t care what internal process they follow—this approach is completely unacceptable. We came to dine, not to be treated like a problem. The staff were rude, dismissive, and clearly have no understanding of basic customer service.

Avoid this place if you expect even a minimum level of respect.

I called a couple of weeks in advance, reserved a table, and ordered the foods for 12 people. Chef Jeff discussed each dish with me on the phone. I like the fact that Jeff shopped for the fresh ingredients after he received the orders. When I and my guests arrived at the restaurant at 6:30 PM tonight, the foods were served exactly as planned, one course after another. We had, in the following order, the smoked fish, marinated gluten, steamed pork dumplings (xiao long bao), pan fried buns, egg rolls, stir-fried shrimps, fish filet soup, braised pork shoulder, spare ribs with sweet and sour sauce, rice with salted pork belly and green veggie, stir-fried pork liver, steamed baby cabbage with ham, and finally the sweet wine soup with rice balls as dessert. Everything was exquisitely prepared and super-delicious. The xiao long bao are better than those in most Ding Tai Feng stores in the world. I have had Shanghainese dishes served in New York, Toronto, LA, San Francisco, Taipei and Shanghai. Jeff’s interpretation of Shanghainese food is definitely one of the best I have ever experienced! After dinner, I and my friends continued to sit at the table and chatted for an hour. Jeff and his wife stopped by occasionally to replenish our tea pots and to make friendly small talks, but never tried to rush us to vacate our table. It was an absolutely enjoyable dinner experience!

I rarely leave reviews but all 5 menu items we shared at the table might have been in the top 5 for each plate I have ever had. I eat out at least 5 times a week for the last 10 years across the USA and Europe. It’s just two people custom cooking your meal and serving you. Food comes out ever few minutes and you have to order ahead. It’s a true experience. This might be one of the best restaurants in the Midwest .

The food was phenomenal. My family and I shared 7 different dishes and each one was incredible. I can't imagine why anyone would leave a negative review. The soup dumplings were amazing, as was the shrimp, flounder, duck, veggie stir-fry, veggie dumplings, and fish maw soup. My whole family loved it and everyone was so nice. I'll 100% go back again. I've never had such good food, of any nationality
