Our recent experience at J. Alexander’s in West Bloomfield, MI was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, no one greeted us or offered assistance, so we found our own seats at the bar — which was dirty, cluttered, and in need of cleaning. Throughout our visit, we had to ask for everything, from placing our order to getting basic service.
To make matters worse, we listened to other patrons around us complain about the same poor bar service and lack of attentiveness. It was clear that this was not an isolated experience.
The food was good, but it did not make up for the service we received. We actually wanted to order more, but because no one paid attention to us, we decided to leave and go to another local establishment instead.
For a restaurant with J. Alexander’s reputation, this experience fell far below expectations.

My wife and I went to dinner at J alexander's in West Bloomfield on Saturday October 18th we have dined at this restaurant previously and have found it to be a pleasant experience for the most part. On this occasion the atmosphere was still nice and our server was also very pleasant .The food however was not. My wife had their chopped salad with chicken which she has had many times before and has enjoyed Not so much this time. It wasn't chopped and was missing some of the ingredients and the wrong dressing, this can happen from time to time and our server corrected the issue quickly. I had the "Prime" Rib which visually looked good But was absolutely the worst piece of "meat" I have ever had.it wasn't Prime or even close to choice or even select. I realize this is not a high end Steak house But this item should Not be on the menu it is all grizzly and not eatable. This restaurant needs some sort of quality control. There are better choices nearby, and given last nights experience we will not return.
First let’s start with the waiter. She didn’t bring any eating utensils I had to ask her three times. 2nd our entrée we had the queso dip and their Tortilla chips were very stale. Our steak was over cooked. I usually visit the one in Troy which is great! But this location I was very disappointed

The service was great and everyone made me feel very loved and appreciated. I celebrated my 30th birthday with them and I would definitely recommend this experience for anyone.

Our server, Allyah, was professional and courteous throughout our visit. However, our overall experience at J. Alexander's on Northwestern Hwy was disappointing.
We waited approximately 15 minutes for our drinks, which included two Moscow Mules—one made with tequila and the other with vodka—and a Sprite. Unfortunately, the Moscow Mules were not enjoyable; the excessive amount of lime made them overwhelmingly sour. Allyah was understanding and promptly returned the drinks after we expressed our concerns.
She also offered us a choice of bread with butter or olive oil, letting us know the bread would need to be freshly made. We appreciated the option and didn’t mind the wait.
For our meals, our party ordered the crispy chicken dinner, a veggie burger, and the rotisserie chicken. Sadly, the chicken dishes were overcooked and lacked flavor, which significantly impacted our dining experience.
Overall, we did not enjoy our first visit to this location and left feeling disappointed.

The Orchard Lake Rd restaurant is beautiful on the outside with all the flowers abloom. The had a delicious Cypress salad (hold the bacon), while my cousin enjoyed the pecan encrusted trout, which is one of my favorites!

had such a wonderful experience at J. Alexander’s! From the moment we walked in, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Every single especially ally the waiter! we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and professional — they made sure our drinks stayed full, our food came out perfectly, and that we had everything we needed without even having to ask.
The manager also stopped by our table to check in and personally make sure we were enjoying our meal, which really made us feel valued and appreciated. It’s rare to see a team work so well together to create a seamless dining experience, and they truly nailed it.
The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was absolutely top-notch. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending J. Alexander’s to friends and family!

The food and service is always top notch at J. Alexander's. And if you're not too full, try the carrot cake or key lime pie for dessert!

One of my favorite spots! The steak is always perfectly cooked, the calamari is crispy and flavorful, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The customer service is consistently top-notch — professional and welcoming. Great place to enjoy a quality meal whether you’re with friends, family, or on your own. Highly recommend!

Extremely disappointed in the toxic culture supported at the restaurant. This used to be one of my favorite places but I'm not interested in a side of disrespect with my crab cakes. There are too many good establishments around that will treat you with respect with good food. Avoid this place.
