Great place to come, laid back, great service and food
Great food I recommend this place.
Shangri-La has been one of our favorite Chinese restaurants in Southeast Michigan for years. We like to go for dim sum and the Barbequed Peking Duck. I love that the Peking duck comes with a second course (we usually choose duck with the wide rice noodles) and that we can take the bones home to make soup.
This year we asked Shangri-La if they would cater a wedding reception for us. Mrs. Shan worked patiently with us while we tried various dishes to see which ones would work best for us. Not all the dishes had the flavors we were looking for but the ones we ended up choosing were stellar and our Chinese guests thought they were delicious. We particularly liked the Braised Fried Tofu with Black Mushrooms and Vegetables, the Green Beans with Minced Pork and Picked Vegetables, the Beef with Wide Rice Noodles in Soy Sauce, the Stuffed Eggplant, and the Deep Fried Shrimp Balls.
The quantity they made for 200 guests was perfect and the delivery went smoothly. Thank you, Danny!
Note: This might be considered a very large delivery order. We rented our own chafing dishes and hot boxes (to keep the food warm) and had people to help us replenish the food as needed. Shangri-La does not provide this service.
Food is good and help is very professional and friendly
Good dimsum and chinese food
Going to Shangri-La on a weekend to enjoy Dim Sum was our family holiday tradition as kids growing up. We always over-ordered a variety of our favorite dishes from the fancy menu, leaving plenty of delicious food to take home to enjoy later. Everything tasted perfect, never had a bad experience. The staff professional, polite, accommodating, tended to needs of the patrons with no complaint. As they push the carts, making their rounds, always checked the tables to offer additional items on the carts and to help clear the tables. Every now and then the owner stopped by tables to check to see how was everything and even help clear the table.
“After” COVID-19, the Shangri-La ambience changed drastically. Immediately went downhill. The carts were the first thing to go. The fancy Dim Sum menu was reduced to an amateurish 2-sided laminated card showing poor quality photos with significantly less selection that left nothing to the imagination. For a moment I felt I was sitting in one of those mediocre convenient gas station restaurant stops before you get back on the highway. It didn’t take much to kill the mood. Just a couple of major changes that quickly degraded the once were most glamorous popular hot spots in hobnobbing West Bloomfield Twp., where authentic homemade Asian dishes always warmed your heart, turned the dining experience into an instant tragedy. I rather watch Madame Butterfly 20 times back-to-back and I hated it the 1st time. Food was bland, arrived cold, sizes smaller, portions smaller, less to hardly any meat, food reminded me of pre-made microwave-to-table.
The new owners really need to get it together. Here’s a helpful clue. First they need to read all the reviews. Second, they need to respond to the reviews; be humble, show the patrons they truly care about the concerns. Third, they need to commit to putting feasible action plan in place to fix what’s broken. It’s not all about them. It’s all about the community. They owe it to the long-standing community who’s been around a lot longer than they have; to do their part upholding the highest standard. Maybe one day, they will win everyone back.

Absolutely horrible service. Dumplings came out dry. The waitress never asked us how we were doing or if we needed anything. Once I told someone about our experience she didn't apologize or even offer an explanation of why the service was so bad. There are other restaurants that serve better quality food, and give cleaner atmospheres with quality customer service. Don't waist your money or time.

My experience at Shangri-la was great. We were looking for a bit of an upgrade from the normal Chinese cuisine we normally eat. Didn't want to go full on high end but wanted an upgrade over the quick stop carry-out options we frequent. Shangri-la was just what the doctor ordered. We could tell right away the ingredients are much fresher than we received from our normal go-to restaurant. Food was delivered to our table exceptionally fast. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again. I had the Almond Chicken, my favorite, and the Orange Chicken.

Have been eating here for years because of family and people we know there. Still a yummy place with great food only complaint is that I feel the dishes have gotten smaller and the prices have gone up. We would love to eat dim sum from there more often it’s just too expensive for a few dishes (dim sum). If you’ve ordered them you know it’s pretty small portions. Still a classic go to place I’ll revisit soon.

We have been eating here for over 15 years. Good authentic food. Unfortunately in the last year the prices have gone up too much, compared to other such Chinese restaurants. It's no longer affordable for the type and quality of food.
