I'm happy ordering about anything here. My favorite dish here is the carnitas burrito. It is the best when you ask them to crisp the carnitas on the grill a little before adding it to the burrito. They'll gladly do this for you. It really brings out the flavor, and creates a great texture. It comes topped with their signature cheese sauce on which I pour on a blend of both picante sauces they offer to spice it up to being so good.
They have multiple Mexican beers on tap including Modello, Pacifica, and Dos Equis. Margaritas come pre-blended or poured with your choice of tequila.
El Loro is a family owned restaurant with locations here and in the Twin Cities. I have been to a few of them. In Alexandria, they serve some of the best Mexican food in town. Tortilla chips are freshly made. Service is prompt. El Loro is a great place to eat or to wet your whistle.

Horrible service, we noticed that employees treat English speaking people different than Spanish speaking people, for some reason if they see you speak Spanish they’ll leave you there waiting longer for your food. workers make you wait purposely for orders, even with the place empty they make you wait 40+ minutes for the most simple thing, tried taking a party of 6 here but rather go to maccdonalds because the service is horrible!!!!!!!!

Food is okay. Lacs flavor, and you don't really get a lot of food for the price.
Service is okay. There are a lot of communication barriers. So, since it's hard to understand what we are saying or they are saying a lot of the time, my order comes out wrong.
The atmosphere is too crowded. The tables are so close together, and there is not enough space to walk through. Music on some days is so loud you can't hear people talking.

Restaurantji Recommends
The food was good, but the service was disappointing. The initial server seemed impatient/frustrated when we asked for a menu recommendation. 2 of our 3 plates came out different than what we ordered. The other plate was missing a taco. He brought the correct order and said “here you go, bro”. Another server came in to help. She was really helpful, which kept us from leaving early.

My first one starred review. I do this because if nobody knows about it and nobody starts doing something then they can continue doing it. So I went into El lauro tonight to get takeout place my food with the waitress at the counter and I told them do you still charge for using a credit card she said yes it's on the door, now English is not their first language, so I say then I'm going to pay with cash and I will get a cash discount. She continues to ring me up and I do not get the cash discount she comes over and gets the other person who doesn't speak English either very well and doesn't understand what is going on and they continue to give me exact change and I was told just because the computer doesn't do it means that they can't give it to me. So in all in all they offer to do a cash discount so you don't have to incur credit card charges but when you ask for the cash discount they can't give it to you because the computer doesn't do it but when you ask for no charge on the credit card they say we have to charge you because the computer does it. So which is it do you give a cash discount so you don't have to worry about credit card fees or just continue charging everybody and forget to give everybody a cash discount and keep the discount for yourself and pocket the cash. Here are some pictures
