Great food and atmosphere off the beaten path.

Food was really good, staff was friendly and the atmosphere was super cute. My only complaint would be how slow it took for the food to come. But. I still would recommend bc the food was DELICIOUS and HUGE portio sizes.

Carbed up for lunch before hiking at Banning State Park. We missed breakfast pancakes so one of us dug into a large cheese omelet while the other savored a Patty Melt. Portions are large while prices are not. Exceptional service in a fun and educational setting -- the Pine County Historical Museum shares the space. Fun to discover Askov and this gem of a restaurant just off 1-35 and so near Banning SP.

We've been visiting more frequently and the service is amazing. The menu is built for customizing your meal, and everyone in my family leaves happy and sated. The pancakes are huge, and they have an impressive list of pies for dessert if you are still hungry.

Kid-friendliness: They have an excellent a la carte menu with things like single pancakes, French toast, and waffles and other options that let you build a tasty menu for kids at a fair price. There's lots of fun decorations for kids, and the restaurant is large to accommodate all sizes of families.

The Little Mermaid, so named because it resides in the former Hans Christen (HC) Andersen School, is super quaint. You enter the school doors and proceed into the old cafeteria, bedecked with historic photos of nearby towns, and memorabilia from the Pine County Historical Society. Take a tour of the memorabilia when you head to the restrooms!

We ate the German Burger (sauerkraut and "Swiss") and the patty melt. Fries or sweet potato fries are extra and are tasty. The burger was definitely hand pressed and tasted great.

The staff are very welcoming and kind. A fun experience all around.

We over shot a bigger stop and saw this place on a sign and gave it a try. What a treat. The food was tasty and priced right, We loved all of the vintage and classic items around in the decor and from the historical society.
