Ive eaten here numerous times and it's always the same--disappointing w/exceptions First, I may well be spoiled coming from California and Arizona, but their salsa is the worst blend I have ever had--terrible...overspiced in some areas (cumin) and under in others. I have to use their bottle spices to try and make it better, which greatly helps (who is responsible for this salsa? It's truly a disgrace to compliment this on chips or dishes). I will say their (bar) three-taco happy hour special is great!. Their guacamole is also respectable, but that's it; the menu items just missed the boat on good Mexican. The batender's laughs usually save the day (one of the most passionate laughs of all time!). And he always pours a mean beer along with that laugh, which is worth the price of admission. Too bad the food can't match his laugh, lol.
Food was great, I asked and they do offer a spicier salsa than what they give right when you sit down, worth the request for sure

Great spot to grab a bite to eat. Food is always good and hot. Bar and dining separation is great. A go to for a good meal and drink

Craving some Mexican food on the way back from the cabin and the wife's nostalgia kicked in and we stopped into Poncho & Lefty's restaurant.
First time for me and was excited to see if this was a destination eatery.
The exterior looked typical of a Mexican style restaurant and well kept.
The interior is in much need of a serious renovation. Ripped booth seats, old lighting, and 2 of 3 male urinals out of order during our visit. Not a great first impression...
We were greeted and seated immediately and a few moments later, our drink and food order was taken by a wonderful young female server. She was great, quick and attentive to our requests.
The chips and salsa appetizer was fresh and tasty.
We're huge fans of fajitas and Poncho & Lefty's has a great one!!
The meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the veggies were cooked but crisp. Tortilla's were warm and the plate with lettuce, Pico de Gallo, cheese and sour cream was enough to make 4 tacos each. We bought an additional plate and tortillas since no Fajitas for two.
This place has a ton of potential but in a desperate need of a renovation. Would eat here again. Thank you.

This is a dive bar with a Mexican disguise.
Waitress was surprised to see me waiting at the bar for over 5 min. Order the fresh squeezed. Poorly balanced 10 dollar drink served by a bartender dressed in slob attire sweatshirt. John Taffer needs to rescue this place.

This is hands down the worst Mexican restaurants my family of 6 has ever been to! Upon first walking in we were greeted with filthy floors with food scattered about. The service was very slow and not very attentive. Pop was flat. I myself typically order a chimichanga from Mexican restaurants, however this place didn’t include the rice and beans on any of their meals, which were already overpriced as is. The chimichangas were like 15.99, plus 2.99 for rice and beans, and if you wanted it topped with queso (which I do), that was another $3.99!!! So total my meal alone would have been near $23, where other restaurants are $13-16 for the entire platter including rice and beans. So I opted for a more affordable chicken wrap, which wasn’t good. My son tried it and said it tasted like the way cigarettes smell. Another kid got a taco and the meat was absolutely disgusting. Think mushy canned pet food. My entire family of 6 all felt the same about our food… gross, flavorless and overpriced. I knew we should have just left the second we got cold chips delivered to our table and seen the prices. If we hadn’t already ordered drinks and had a guest with us, we definitely would have walked out and went elsewhere.

The gossip from the kitchen was better than the mushy rice and the velveeta/rotel queso. Not one for leaving reviews but I don’t know where the quality of this place went.
The worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. Yuck! I think the cook should try tasting the food before it goes out! Flavors were way off!!!!

I've eaten here quite a few times. For the price, I think it is the best option in Brainerd area for Mexican food.
Friendly help & good food.

Wanted a good margarita, didn't get it.
Service and atmosphere was great with no t.v.'s in the restaurant area. A plus. Unfortunately the food lacked flavor and spices.
