They are trying to add management and staff and will be open regular hours as soon as they do. According to the owners, it is impossible to find staff in Fergus Falls. (Sound familiar?). Check with them on messenger.

We called today and, unfortunately, a message on their phone said they are closed until further notice. That’s too bad - great place to eat.

I did not try any food, but the bar had very good beer selections.

In the mood for historic ambiance? A very nice renovation. There's a bar and some outside tables. Lots of TVs to catch a game. The local regulars seemed comfortable. A good selection of beer and hard drinks.

Was recommended by Fergus Falls Brewery. Zero expectations. Enjoyed the history. The sampler was alright. Came out cold, but Jaden, the waiter was quick to warm it up. Food coming out fast and cold is not a good sign. Cajun creole food is a staple leftover, but the foods temp signals a death in the window or poor logistics with batched food. The spice and heat were appreciated, especially for an upper midwestern city. Credit for diversifying palates. The sidecar was interesting. Something was off. Different than minneapolis/st. paul sidecars. Wasn’t bad only an unanticipated flavor profile. Also very orange in color.Deserves a second chance, another menu item.

This was our first time at this restaurant, and after reading the reviews we had expected excellent food. In particular, the gumbo and other cajun options were highly thought of. So, I ordered the Cajun Sampler special - cup of gumbo, jambalaya, and shrimp creole. I was so disappointed when the food arrived cold to lukewarm! The gumbo was lukewarm, the jambalaya was cold and congealed together, and the shrimp was lukewarm on top of lukewarm rice and sauce. I did send it back, and after I'm sure what was 1 minute in the microwave, it came back passably hot. But, think about it. What does it say when a restaurant serves cold to lukewarm food that, based on its nature does require a lot of prep time ahead of serving? It means it was either made fresh early that day, in which case it would be kept near serving temperature until ordered (ie. HOT), or it was made a day or more beforehand and kept in the refrigerator until ordered, at which time the server or sous chef tosses it in the microwave, heats it up for a minute and places it on a plate for serving. Of course, this time they got exposed because the food was not even close to hot, but closer to food poisoning temperature. Seriously, if I'm the waiter taking this back, I'm embarrassed as all get out for the restaurant. Never going back there.

i visit Fergus Falls a couple times a year and each and every time I look forward to going to Steel Wheels. it is great! Small, charming, intimate. I travel alone so opt to sit at the bar. The bartends are friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The craft cocktail/old time cocktails are well made and worth tryin. Both the beer and wine menu is well chosen. But for most us the reason we go to a restaurant is for the food. They SHINE! Their staples are the cajun dishes. Which is a nice way to stand apart. The gumbo is great! I have also enjo items on the semi rotating special menus ... lobster pasta, pizza of the mont, salmo with bourbon glaze and Korean beef lettuce wrap (my favorite. And said with sarcas, my only regret is the great atmosphere, food and service has prevented me from trying the rest of what Fergus has to offer. I hope each of you enjoy Steel Wheels as much as I do.

We enjoyed the food so much!! At first we were disappointed with the menu. Very limited since they had just started being open on Sundays a month ago. We almost left but decided to try it. So glad we did!! Shrimp scampi pizza, wings, salmon pate, and cheese curds. YUM!!!!! And our server David was friendly and professional. ? Will definitely be back!!

One of the best restaurant meals ever. A big selection of po'boys along with chef specials. We began with crab cakes and finished up with "not your usual tiramisu". One serving ample enough for 3.

Definitely the cutest and most well done remodel of an old building. Menu covered all options and yet original items. Service was exceptional. Overall great experience!

Very cute place. Food was good (but not anything overly special). Decent liquor menu. We'd go back.

Today we tried brunch at Dining Car 423 and were absolutely blown away! We both ordered the shrimp and grits - delicious! We also had their Bloody Mary - phenomenal! The staff was awesome and extremely helpful. Already looking forward to going back again soon. Hidden gem in Fergus Falls.
