Chester Bird American Legion

Been coming here for 15 years. Over the last two years, the place has gone severely downhill, as many other commenters have mentioned.

Management has fired some of the best bartenders that the Twin Cities had. Since then half the patrons have left and the bar is empty.

The menu is just a handful of appetizers. The drink pours have gotten weaker. Even the pulled tab staff are unhappy. None of the servers make any conversation whatsoever. It’s beyond me why these types of changes were made. Clearly not for the better.

Hopefully things change in the new location.

Will not be back. Waited at the bar for 10 minutes and didn't get served. Not even an I'll be right there.

I frequently go there with friends to play bingo because they have good payouts, but it comes at a price. The service is always verrrry slow (it took 40 minutes just to get a bucket of beer). The people that run bingo, particularly Penny, are rude and make you feel unwelcome. If I pay with singles I get scolded, yet if I pay with larger bills I get scolded. It’s not like I’m buying $50 worth of cards in pennies, but that’s how dramatic Penny is. Doesn’t matter if it’s contributing to the pot and/or legion, if it’s not the easiest way for Penny to count she lets you know and makes comments like “you’re holding up the rest of the line” when all she has to do is count to 20 in $1 bills. She absolutely ruins the experience every time we go, which is getting more and more less frequent. They need to double the staff during bingo and find a bingo card seller that isn’t deterring people from buying cards.

Every time I walk out of this place I can’t stop saying how kind and friendly the staff is that works here! Great vibes, great people and the best service.

Lived here 2 years. Want to love the place. Man. Miss my SLP legion. BC legion. Pretty much every legion I've been to. What's up with this place?

I agree with others who have mentioned that the quality of the food doesn't live up to the prices. I do appreciate the themed food special nights, plus the events such as trivia. Happy hour drink specials are good, too.

Chester Bird used to be amazing! Wednesday and Saturday bingo is still great!After covid they got new staff and changed the menu. Currently on Sundays they only have one server and a limited menu. Sunday service is horrible! One server can't even keep up on drink orders, then adding food to the mix makes it a disaster.This past Sunday I went to bingo and multiple tables never got waited on. (These tables played bingo, ate there own snacks and got 1 drink from the bar.)I ordered wings and waited 47 minutes to get dipping sauce. By then my wings were cold and I politely ask to have them warmed up. Kirsten the server rolled her eyes and said "really?" grabbed the plate of wings and stormed away. Her attitude has always been horrible so maybe I should have expected this.Chester Bird is a fun place, I just wish they would get the service part together. (Maybe have a system in place so service is not a free for all.)Great place for drinks and bingo!!
