Absolutely the worst chicken strips in my life. Completely inedible. The one star was for the fries, the chicken was a zero!
Gin Becker, thanks for your reply. I didn't complain to the server, I just handed it to her about 3 minutes after she served it. They were way over cooked so I took the breading off one and tried to eat the chicken but it was not good. When I handed it to the server with barely anything eaten I had assumed she would say something, but she just took the tray and walked away. Oh well, things happen. The bad thing is this will probably keep us from going back and there just aren't that many places to eat around here.

Whoever the people are who are rating this place must have never eaten anywhere good. We visit this place as my father in law lives north and it’s about halfway between the two of us. I’ve dined here several times and never written a review because it’s a small town and maybe people think it’s great. However, we went on 2/15 to meet them and made a reservation. They had a Valentines menu out and th price looked ok, so we all ordered off of that.

First, the highlights. There’s only one and it’s the Prime Rib. It was juicy and cooked well.

The lows: the pan cooked walleye is nearly inedible. I would have rather eaten a McDonalds fish filet. It was so dry, had a weird cracker crust and was WAY OVERCOOKED. Think fish stick in the oven too long.

The dinner came with one appetizer, two proteins (I won’t even say main dishes because they curated the menu to have NO SIDES) so we ordered them as extra. I’m pretty sure the mashed potatoes came from a box. They were almost sticky like paste. The shared dessert was some sort of almond cake, if it was made in house, I’m sad they hired that cook, it was about as tasty and dry as the ones you get from the freezer section at Cub.

I’m honestly not sure how they got the price point for this at $60+ dollars with $5 up charge for Prime Rib and then you had to add a side if you wanted.

The waitress is a whole other story. She came, took drink orders. Came back to ask questions. Grabbed and brought a beer over, by that time our two other guests had been there for a few minutes. She just walked away to go get the second drink without taking their order. She came back to ask about vodka preference and again didn’t take their drink order. Two appetizers were ordered: 1 coupl got theirs and 10 minutes later the other one n came out. If we’re going wrong together, serve us together especially since the table placed their orders at the same time. The salmon dip (I’d they can even call it that) was served with stale colored tortilla chips and it was basically gross looking cream cheese. Later, the two men asked for creamy horseradish (which she initially forgot because they did order it with their meal order) and then brought ONE for them to share. Not a huge deal because we can share but there are people who hate others touching their food. She didn’t bother to check in much but was hyper focused on putting napkins on tables that were unoccupied the entire time we were there. She was like a squirrel with adhd.

The best part was the sign outside that says: Foodies Welcome…maybe remove that, we’re foodies and the entire experience was almost laughable, you’re just asking for people to put out bad ratings.

We have been here before and absolutely love the firecracker shrimp. We went back and took our niece and her new husband. Ordered our shrimp and then main meals. Our nieces husband really loves the firecracker shrimp too, so he ordered that as his meal. We waited about 30 or 40 minutes (they were quite busy and apparently only had one waitress) our food was brought out by a young man who was working in the back. He told us "I noticed that over half your order was the firecracker shrimp, but we are all out. Thought you should know." Our waitress never came back to ask if we wanted something else, so we all shared our burgers since we were completely short a meal. I had to flag the boy from the back down again to ask for another round of drinks and our condiments. He informed us he couldn't do drinks due to his age but he would let our waitress know. She stuck her head out the door once, but never came over. My guess is she was embarrassed that she never told us about half our order being missing and she didn't know how to handle the situation. Eventually we had to pack up and go inside to get the bill and pay for our food. We were there probably 90 minutes, never got our appetizers, for one round of drinks and 70% of our dinner. They did not bill us for the missing food so we weren't out anything, it was just a very disappointing experience. Haven't been back since.

We have been to the historic rock tavern several times and have never been disappointed until last night. My wife ordered butterfly shrimp And instead they brought her popcorn shrimp , Which is an appetizer The server informed us they would discount us 50%. On my wife's meal She Also
Ordered sweet potato fries that were cold. We returned them They brought hot ones back. I ordered the broasted chicken, which was very good. But by garlic mashed potatoes were also cold. We return them for some hot mashed potatoes. The tomato basil soup was also lukewarm. We did not complain about that.

Pizzas are really good and they have a lot of variety to choose from (frozen pizzas cooked on-site). Staff is very helpful and friendly. Apparel is very soft, sizes run small in the tank tops. Purchased one tshirt this time!

Great place. Our service was fabulous - Molly was a delight! Food was very good (tenderloin, walleye and shrimp fettuccine Alfredo). All of us loved our entrees! The bar menu also looked good. We’ll return next time we’re in the area for sure.

On Friday night , we left the Hub supper club after sitting 20 minutes at a table without being acknowledged . Weren’t sure where to go for dinner but remembered the rock tavern. The food was delicious - recommend walleye sandwich and classic burger. We were eating downstairs when the karaoke started- unbeknownst to us it was karaoke night. . A gentlemen started singing Louis Armstrong - “what a Wonderful World” and all three of us in our party were blown away ! It was such a great night of good food - excellent service - and some really talented singing . What a blast … we will be back!!!

Took my cousin to get a great burger, which means burgers are good. Everything was just okay except when it came time to pay. All THREE waitresses were behind the bar playing with the cash register and their tip jar…. Exchanging change for bills. I asked if they could “do that later”. A very young waitress responded very rudely that what she was doing didn’t have anything to do with me paying. Well, it did because I had to wait for them to finish playing with their tip money and why would a wait person be so snotty. Just because of her I refuse to go back. I’ll miss the good burgers but there’s always someplace else to get good food.
