So many memories in this building and now making new memories at Joe's in Mabel, Minn. The pizza with thick bread crust is delicious. The menu offers a wide selection of my favorite fried bar food. The service is outstanding

Sat 30+ minutes waiting for someone to take our drink order. Staff was working hard and not standing around. Maybe understaffed.

I give this a 3 because the pizza is fresh and good, and this town needs a restaurant. We've been here and eaten 3 times. Drinks a few times more...Here are the problems:1. Bartender crashes when busy. Bartenders visit while people wait, and I don't mean for a minute or two and I don't mean me. They will actually actively ignore customers as a tactic when overwhelmed. I guess they're hoping they'll go away.2. Background noise. Kids screaming in the front... what's that about?3. Inconsistent. First time we went, the fish was amazing! Second time, it was pale, under cooked and greasy, the waitress didn't show up with Silverware and condiments till it was even colder (or maybe warmer?)4. Some unmotivated servers. We totally get that, in this labor market, they had to tap the teen labor market, and I have no problem as they learn...but once we had a server with such a teen attitude, I wanted to ground her! She was annoyed we needed silverware, she was annoyed when we asked for lemon wedges. After she brought one extremely small wedge (for two fish dinners), I asked for a few more. She put her hands on her hips and said "I have to get them from the bar!" (OK??)Then she spent 10 minutes ranting to another server about our unreasonable request for condiment (God as my witness, we were nice, not snippy or anything). I have heard the waitresses pool tips, so there's no incentive for customer service, and (it would appear) no customer service training, so you reap what you sow.Anyway. We will keep trying it every now and then, because we really want the restaurant to succeed. As the staff, cooks and managers gel, it may get past these issues.... And the pizza really is fresh and pretty good.Just confirmed with 3 other couples, no one brings silverware until you ask for it (and by then your food is cold)

Wife and I were at the restaurant at about 6pm on a recent Friday evening. The place was about half full. We had a pizza and each of us had a bottle of Bud.Pros: Clean facility. Moderate prices. Very simple menu for pizza---one size, base price + add'l $2.50 for each topping. Pizza was good, especially if you like good crust and excellent cheese. It was fairly fast service. Very generous...we were hungry. Easy to find and plenty of parking.Cons: Wait staff seems a bit overworked for busy times. Beer order got mixed up, but it was not an issue. Conclusion: We look forward to a return visit.

Nice having a restaurant in Mabel. There were some hiccups but I'm sure it will get better with time.

We ate at Joe's the Saturday after a newspaper article about his place was in the paper, and they were swamped. We were a table of 5, my husband and I got our food first. I was done with mine by the time the other two in our party got their pizza, and when the waitress brought the pizza out she told the 5th member of our party that she'd forgotten to put his order in.My burger was very well done, tasted good, but was not hot, my husband's food was not hot either. The two that got pizza said it was good, but way too much crust. Our waitress was very friendly, but inexperienced. The restaurant is nice looking, but was very loud and we 5 had a hard time hearing each other. We will try Joe's again in a couple months and hope that some of the kinks are worked out!
