The food was awful. I'm pretty sure my steak was boiled meat that was frozen with char marks painted on. Even the baked potato was disturbingly yellow.Seems like breakfast is the only time to visit here but even the old timers that were here most mornings have moved to Coborns for their breakfast meet ups. They need to up the food game since it is a great location with formerly good food.
Fat old guy in Montrose Mn is an older type of restaurant with food being very good. It is not your fast food type. Although the service is decent. New owner has changed the hours doesn't open till ,11:00 am closing at 8:00 pm.
I have been wanting to stop here every time we drive been and today we finally got the chance. To say I was highly disappointed is an understatement! From the minute we walked in to the time we left it was a huge waste of my time. We sat for 10 minutes until 1 of the 3 waitresses even acknowledged us. Then after another 10 i had to grab another waitress to ask if they could take my order. I ordered an omelet with the sausage gravy on the side and it came with hollandaise sauce over the top. I had to track down someone to refill coffee. The flavor of the food was ok but we obviously will never be back. I have worked i. The restaurant business for over 30 years and i really struggled today leaving a tip.
Service was very slow! Seen 3 tables walk out while waiting for our food. The soup was horrible! The potatoes were like un flavoured paste! I had broasted chicken.... nit bad, but nothing to brag about either! The salad I was very good though.... probably not going to go back there!
Great food. Real ingredients, real good. Dinner for 3, $40. Staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was fun. I can see why this is a popular place.
Been going to Reds long before it was Fat old guys Cafe. Like anything change can be hard to accept or simply adjust too. But since becoming Fat Old Guys Cafe the food is awesome. From roasted chicken and homemade fries to the Sunday Brunch (he the owner) that continues to be served, it's all great. If the owner is in and noticing something not to your liking, especially when it comes to younger children, he is quick to reach out and make something special for you or your little one. Little features like that come from small town cafe's. Great place to get together with family or grab your breasted chicken to go. Don't forget, grab the homemade sour cream. YUM!!!
WOW, that looks that was good! I had the "Crispy Grilled Cheese". I live about 40 miles away but I'll drive by once or twice a month. Last Sunday we met some friends who live in Buffalo. Kinda like half way. Their French Fries also are perfect! Our waitress was great, everyone was overwhelmed. 5 stars+++++
Food reasonably priced. Broasted chicken moist and well seasoned. French fries not over cooked...Nice and soft. Staff very friendly.
The breakfast sandwich was literally the smallest sandwich ever it had one toasted cheese on it and two little pieces of bacon to make that better there was a hair in the sandwich
When ordering eggs and toast for breakfast and they only give you one piece of toast bread is not that expensive!

Amazing flavor. Friendly affordable

Great food, nice service, and worth checking out! Their breakfast is fantastic and we can't wait to go back to try more!
Breakfast. We loved this place in Rockford, and love the breakfast here in Montrose. My kids were disappointed though, as the portions were different(much smaller)from his old place in Rockford. The taste is fantastic though, and service was good.
Excellent food. Lots of flavor. Just try it. You won't be disappointed. Other reviews say no flavor. I would disagree. Don't let other people determine what you are going to like. Try for yourself. That's all I can say. I read a couple bad reviews and decided to try them anyway for my own opinion. Because that's the one that counts. And I was glad I did. Love the real fries and home made recipes.
