I went to the Fishtale for the first time with my husband and his family on Mother’s Day. They have been before, I have not. Everyone received their food, but due to some technical error (according to our server anyway), my food order did not get put in. Not a big deal…things happen. They said they were putting a “rush” on it. Still, not a bid deal. My food didn’t arrive until everyone else was done eating. What did they do to try and make it right? One of my drinks was free. When I mentioned that my food didn’t arrive until everyone else was finished, the server doubled down and said that was all they were willing to do. I should mention that everyone else took their time eating and talking. They didn’t rush through their meals.
This is the first Mother’s Day that I actually felt like leaving the house since I lost my son to suicide in 2022. I will never be back to this restaurant.
I will also say that our service was extremely slow. The others that did actually get their food were never asked if it was all right. We also were never asked if we needed anything more to drink. Even though we had empty glasses, we had to point out that we wanted another drink.
This was hands down the worst service that I have ever had. The fact that they didn’t want to make things right…on Mother’s Day…goes to show what type of people own this restaurant, and the kind of people that they have working for them.
Poor customer service, food quality inconsistent
I went to Fishtale Grill with my dad, 2 of my siblings, brother-in-law and a few nieces on Friday, 4/4 for the fish special. It was quite busy, so the wait was understandable. Unfortunately, it was the quality of food that we have had in the past. The baked fish was ok, but could have used more seasoning. The deep-fried fish was tough as if it had been cooked earlier and then sat under warming lights for some time. Fries were also lukewarm and overdone. Mac 'n cheese needed more sauce... However, this was not the worst part... When we paid, those who had the fish special were all charged $19.95 instead of the advertised $16.95. What a surprise! We had multiple choices, including two that would have been cheaper had we known. Gets worse... When we pointed out the mistake to the waitress/manager, she said she knew and needed to update the website! She refused to give us the advertised price... OK... so we thought if we contacted the owners, perhaps they would rectify things with us. Sent an email to both owners listed on the website... Still no answer, although they have now updated the website to reflect the current price. VERY DISAPPOINTING... It was already not my dad's favorite place as evening lighting is dim and it is noisy. Now, they have lost 3 family customers (even when my brother said that they lost a customer, and my dad echoed, there was no budge to honor the advertised price.) ...

Possibly the best place within 40 miles to eat! Great food, great service, and good prices. There are usually a few craft beer options on tap, the food variety and quality is great, and the decor is charming. If you haven't eaten here before, stop in and give it a try!

The food was good. I loved the sweet potato fries! The restaurant was clean, the service was excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable about items on the menu, and more importantly was able to let us know how great a particular beer was. Loved the Montgomery breweries triple berry beer. It was both tasty and potent!

The seared tuna & kimchi was one of the most delicious appetizers I have ever had in my life!!! The spicy pasta had a really nice cream sauce, and the penne was cooked perfectly. Definitely will be bringing out of town guests here.

Went there for the first time and it far exceeded my expectations! The menu had something for everyone in our gluten-free, vegetarian, and meat-eating group. The service was fantastic and friendly and the food was fast.
Vegetarian options: The Impossible burger was amazing as well as the baked mac and cheese!
Had never been to New Prague before, stopped here with family for a late lunch. Expected pretty normal bar and grill food. Vomacka soup was something we've never had and are going to try to replicate at home. Kids mac and cheese, smoked salmon platter was fantastic as well.

Whenever we come back to Minnesota to visit family in New Prague, we always take the time to stop by the Fishtale Grill for at least one meal. Their seafood entrees (does fresh Walleye count as seafood?) as well as their steaks and sandwiches are always delicious. The atmosphere is an overload of Minnesota - from the fish on the wall to the antlers chandelier to the faces of strangers that look like people you recognize - filling up a space in my head for 'home'. It's over the top, but in a good way. While it would be nice if there were more allergy-free options, there's nothing lost in 'settling' for a steak from the local butcher shop.
