Catrinas Cerveza & Mexican Grill

I ordered for the first time through Door Dash. Just a taco salad. I didn't think it was possible to screw up a taco salad but they did. The bowl had so much water in the bottom it made the lettuce and rice soggy.
It was one of the unpalatable meals I have ever eaten.
I would NOT recommend this establishment.

We had the fish tacos on flour tortillas and they were amazing! 2 of those and 2 Morelos for $40 and we were STUFFED!! The family that served us were gracious and efficient. It is a definite go to!

I ordered beef tacos but there were filled with beens and lettuce mostly and there was hardly any beef in them, and the beef didn’t have any spices at all.

My favorite place since it first opened. I'll be coming back for years to come.

One of the best options for a meal in Oakdale. Intensely flavorful, delicious, and filling. The salsa variety alone puts this spot head and shoulders above many other take out options. (don't miss that pineapple habanero, especially with the pastor) Catrinas lets you build the burrito of your dreams and it is huge!

Lorenzo and his team are welcoming, kind, and clearly have a passion for serving delicious food to their community. The seating and music were comfortable and lively. The food was so good. I got some al pastor tacos with salsa quemada (best salsa!). My husband got a burrito with various meats and fillings. We left full and happy!

It pains me to write a negative review, because this restaurant served very tasty food and the staff were friendly.

However, I ate here with my mom, who has a near-celiac gluten sensitivity. She cannot eat any gluten or she gets very sick.

We found this searching for gluten-free options. And when we walked in, the menu board highlighted that nearly all of the menu was gluten free aside from the flour tortillas and tortas. This gives the sense that they take gluten-free dining seriously since it is highlighted on the menu.

The problem is that my mom ordered corn tortillas with her meal, and they heated them up in the same tortilla press that they use for flour tortillas (even after we said she is celiac and cannot eat gluten). We didn’t notice until after my mom had finished her corn tortillas.

My mom is now sick from the gluten exposure. I feel this could’ve been avoided with a separate tortilla press (or even just fresh foil used for corn tortillas) and more education to the staff about allergies and risk of cross contact.

Finally, we called the restaurant to explain what happened to hopefully prevent someone else from getting sick in the future. We were speaking to the manager, and they hung up on us as we were explaining the issue. This led to us leaving this review as a cautionary tale to anyone with a gluten sensitivity or celiac disease.

By the way, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and I do not blame them for this issue (and I hope they do not get personally in trouble from this review). The staff did as they were trained - it comes from the top down. There are system errors at this restaurant in regards to gluten-free food, and the owners/management are the ones who have to address this.

Bottom line: the food is very good, however their attitude towards gluten-free dietary needs is very lacking and misleading. Please be very careful if you have any health issues with gluten and decide to eat here.

Customer service was incredible. There was a lady by the name of Veronica, and another named Rose who were very happy people. And willing to help with any questions and never let you get to the point where you had to ask for something. I will tell all my friends and family to go here two thumbs up. The food was also very fresh and delicious. I would have posted photos, but we started eating the food so quick.

My husband and I were looking for a great place to eat, we read the reviews so we decided to go here, Mexican rice was really salty and the meat dry dry. Plus the pastor meat was more like birria and not pastor. We did not like anything about this restaurant, never going back.

Really tasty and incredibly cheap! Ditch Qdoba and Chipotle. Catrinas is the place!

I enjoy going on Thursdays when their special of the day is beef birria. Sometimes the tortilla is a little crispier than I would like, but almost every time it's perfect and soft and delicious. This place sets the bar for other birria experiences for me.
