Extra fee for onion rings only to get measly miserly portions. Extra fee for Cesar salad with no bacon or chicken. Extra fee for using a credit card that was not mentioned in print or by the server.
We highly recommend Black Woods Catering. The food was delicious, the on-site team was professional, and our buffet line never ran low. Early in the process, Emily walked us through the many options available to us, set up a tasting on a trip to Duluth, and worked with us as our wedding day neared as we refined the menu and guest count. Black Woods took excellent care of one of the major items at a wedding -- catering -- and allowed us to focus on our special day!
Huge thanks to Black Woods Catering for all of the care in helping make our wedding evening go so smoothly! Leading up to the wedding, Molly & Emily were very effective in making sure they had everything they needed before the big day arrived. They were also able to accommodate special food requests for dairy & gluten free.We got married in May, and we had our grooms dinner at the Proctor Event Center and had full service catering day of. We received so many compliments both nights on the food, service, and bar staff. (Paige specifically was an absolute JOY to work with!)We felt the day of staff truly went above and beyond. Not only were they willing to help with our special requests (like brining salads upstairs after the ceremony for the bride & groom to share during cocktail hour), but also ensuring to check in with us to make sure that everything was on schedule and we were getting everything we needed. We genuinely enjoyed working with you both evenings and would readily recommend Black Woods to anyone!Cheers,L+C
So, I just had the saddest pulled pork sandwich at your catering tent located at Bayfront. You guys are serving held, half warmed pork sandwiches for $10 with a $0.50 bag of chips. The bun was somehow simultaneously wet and stale, the pork is cooked to hell and back, and the sandwich was built likely hours before I bought it. It weighs the same as a McDouble, and thats a $2 sandwich. AND it’s served hot. You’re an established catering service, attached to a rather established restaurant group, and this is what you bring to represent yourselves? It’s disrespectful.
Blackwoods catering catered our wedding, buffet style, using their bar menu. The food was amazing and people continue to rave that it was some of the best wedding food they've ever had. We did their taco bar and asked for a chicken finger bar and it was all set up so beautifully and creatively. The planning process was a bit tricky however. We had our wedding on an island we were some what restricted by the timing of and how often the ferry was running, and when we needed to have dinner completed by. Blackwoods suggested that if we house the catering staff on the island, then we could have a looser timeline, versus rushing through dinner so they could catch the 7:30 ferry home. We decided to move forward with housing the staff and had everything arranged, but then were told that management had changed their mind, and that staff was not allowed to spend then night, so we had to rework our whole time line again. We also planned a trip to come up to Blackwoods restaurant so we could have dinner and try their bar food. We were told that staff was expecting us, but the waitress we had clearly had no idea who we were. We asked for recommendations of things to try off the menu and they didn't recommend anything, and also spent the majority of their time waiting on their table of friends seated behind us. Our end result of our wedding dinner was fantastic, it just was a bit of a bumpy road getting there.
I could not say more good things about Black Woods Catering! I got married on 10/01/21 at Ivory North in Mora and everything was amazing! My main points of contact throughout the last year of planning my wedding were Molly & Kyla. They both were very nice, had a good attention to detail, and very responsive. I was lucky enough to go to 2 tastings and I was blown away during both of them! All the food was amazing. At the wedding, we had butler passed appetizers. I had requested that one of the butlers come to the bridal party while we were doing all of our photos and a blonde girl with a pony tail did just that. She was very cute and sweet and made sure we were taken care of. We also had a couple of people that could not come anymore that we had already paid for their food so my husband and I had their food as well (almost like a sampler we took a couple bites off of each entree). The blonde girl again (I wish I would have gotten her name as I hate just calling her the blonde girl) was kind enough to box up our leftovers for me as well. All in all, my husband and I, and all of our guests were extremely happy with all the food and service. I will highly recommend this catering place to all my friends and family! I hope to add some pictures once we get our professional pictures back!
Blackwoods catered my son’s wedding yesterday. Overall we would recommend them, but there were a few glitches. The tablecloths we picked up from them the day before the wedding were the wrong size and, despite being sealed in plastic, there were quite a few set in stains. I phoned and left a message about the issue, and no one bothered to return my call. Not a promising start. On the day of the wedding, the staff arrived on time, and everything was set up and ready to go as planned. For the most part the food was good, but the ham was awful. It was tough and the pieces were cut into huge chunks, many of which were full of fat and gristle. We had people who normally love ham refusing to eat it. Since it was one of the main dishes, the ham was a huge disappointment, especially for the money paid. The turkey, however, was moist and tasty. The staff members were helpful and professional. They willingly boxed up leftovers for the wedding couple, which was much appreciated, and they left the church kitchen clean.

Clean and cozy
Highly recommend! We called Blackwoods catering a month ago when our venue cancelled due to the pandemic. Molly was professional, helpful and quick with a quote and answers to our questions. We had a small backyard wedding with appetizers, champagne chicken and filet mignon. Blake and Destiny started us off with the appetizers and 2 others joined them in serving. They were excellent and wore gloves and masks. The food was delicious and hot and they accommodated a garlic sensitivity. Excellent!

Black Woods did a phenomenal job (as they always do) catering my daughter's wedding in early August! It all started with the excellent work Molly did helping us set up the event. She is extremely professional and 100% customer service oriented. The special requests we had were carried out flawlessly. After the salad’s were served, my Mother In Law came over to us and was so appreciative to have her special salad with no onions (due to allergies). With so much going on the day of the wedding, it was impossible for me to keep track of everything so I was extremely pleased that once again Black Woods did what they said they would do. We also had a “VERY” special food request for a young man that is allergic to almost everything. Molly followed up seamlessly with that request and we were so happy the chef came up with a fantastic option so he could enjoy a great meal too. He LOVED it!!! In addition to the special requests, I cannot fail to share how good all the food was! Black Woods Catering service and food is top notch.
