If the new owners expect to make it I would suggest getting a kitchen in ASAP. I was there before the new owners took over and the food was horrible now it is nonexistent. Guess I will have to find a new hang out.
This place was sold and bought by new people in 2020, so old reviews may not be correct. Hopefully they fix up the very old historic building (1850s) as well!
Stopped by after a round of golf with friends. During this Covid crisis, not one employee was wearing a face mask. We seated ourselves on the outside deck and noticed immediately that the metal tables and chairs shown of rust and not paint. Boards on the railings were so rotted and the deck itself has a greasy dirty sheen to it. This is one dive bar I won't set foot in again.
Have made special trips here for their ribs they didn’t have any tonight. Steak and prime rib advertised in flashing lites also not available. Waitress apologized and was real embarrassed - made several trips to see if kitchen had. Received our onion rings on the house. Shrimp basket ok - chicken stripes were chucks of chicken heavy on batter. No coffee but would have made opted for hot tea-warm water from tap. Nice location. Hope they can business back in order
I do not live in MN. That being said, I think the food, beer & service at the Rum River Inn was just fine...not the best I’ve ever had, but for the area, really not bad. I was trying to understand why their rating is so low, but then I noticed that the waitresses are pretty darn cute for the area, that always seems to provoke strong reactions in both sexes (whether it’s from jealousy or perceived rejection). I found the service attentive and charming...but I’m neither interested nor am I intimidated. I loved the Tetris tots!
The entire time we were on the deck there were a lot of people making racist comments and people "almost fighting" horrible atmosphere to be in
We were there with a group of eight on a Friday night for the prime rib special. Our server was terrible!!! When asked what craft beers were on tap she read a list of brands - no specifics as to type (most of the breweries have several beers they offer IPA, stout...). Had to go to the bar to get any detail. Prime rib dinners were cold and had to be sent back to be heated! By the time server brought condiments, we had finished meal! Checks didn't include Happy Hour prices!
Very good drinks and food for cheap prices. This is a little cute old bar on the river. Nice outdoor patio .
Stopped in for eats not so very busy lots of room. Staff was friendly ordered up a couple drinks and then on to appetizers and dinner all was very delicious. Very natural looking place.
If you like listening to a bunch of cussing drunks this is definitely the place to be. We got to watch some girl standing on the pool table get her hand wacked by the ceiling fan. That was amusing. And it was pretty drafty and cold. The staff was nice. They didn't know what the special was, what was on the menu, or even what kind of whiskies the bar had. And they also couldn't remember what we ordered. But they were nice enough. If you got no place better to go try the steak. I got the ribeye and my friend got the prime rib. Both were really good. But don't fall for the BBQ chicken wings. It's just chicken strips with BBQ sauce for dipping.

We have eaten here in the past and every time it gets a little worse. Tonight it was terrible. There was only one other couple in the dining room when we arrived. The waitress was friendly and took our drink order right away. Three of us ordered steaks because they were on special. It took 40 minutes for us to get our food. The onion rings were cold and the steaks were very undone and raw on the inside. We asked for steak sauce and were told they had no steak sauce whatsoever, only ketchup. Seriously??? The vegetable that was served was canned corn, and it too was cold. The long island tea was very good and the salad was good, but there were no breadsticks served as advertised on the menu. When we went to leave, we couldn't find anyone who would check us out. When we first moved to the area 2 years ago, we enjoyed going here. There are too many good restaurants around for us to ever go back to the Rum River Inn.
The prime rib was very good and the price was great. The breadsticks were really good and the one dessert that was offered was ok, but small. But like others have said, the place is pretty run down on the inside- all it would take is a little remodel in the right places to keep it in a budget but drastically increase appeal. Please look into a dessert menu, that's my favorite part of going out to eat. Drinks were good - I'll give'em that!
Don't normally leave poor reviews but the meal were received tonight was the worst we've had in a long time. The sad thing is we use to enjoy eating there but that changed tonight. The sad thing is other than soggy canned mixed vegetables the quality of our steaks was very good just poorly prepared. One was one was ordered medium and was served well done, the other was ordered medium and was served purple rare. Our plates were served medium cool so the whole meal was a disaster. Did we complain? no when a staff prepares a meal so poorly and allows them to sit on the counter 10+ minutes once plated they really don't care what you think, besides when you send food back who knows what happens to it in the back room. The good things about the meal the soggy canned veggies were warm and the bread stick was fantastic. We won't be going back until management decides to improve their service. , .
I have lived in Saint Francis for a few years and have dinner at the Rum River Inn many times. They're are few places for dining in our small town. They do have a great prime rib special on Friday nights that does bring in a crowd. But overall it is a place that should be on "Restaurant Impossible" for a total make over. The booths or chairs have rips, the decor is so out dated. If the dining area looks this way it makes a person wonder what the kitchen looks like. At one visit we sat ourselves and the waitress over looked us for over 20 minutes. Not even water or menus. We went into the bar and the bartender took our order and apologized for the dining area. So trying to eat your dinner with a high bar was not the best but they did offer better service or at least served us. So atmosphere, cleanliness and staff that need better training. Even if you are busy, at least acknowledge your guests.
Shame on you Jerry for allowing your restaurant/Bar to go to pot! What happened? You shouldn't be running out of food at 6pm. Last Saturday evening you had a special on New York Strip Steak dinner. I ordered one at 6pm and it was the last one you had and guess what? It wasn't good. Our family and friends have been going here for years and I gotta say I don't know if we can come back. The soup you served us was cream based and it was like milk and very little flavor. The waitress said that all she knew was that they keep adding milk to it. The best bread sticks ever are no longer. They taste like they are cooked ahead of time. One time I ordered the homemade chicken noodle soup....I guess I know Campbells chicken noodle soup from homemade. Could it be you have a new cook in the past year? I think you should contact BAR RESCUE and save yourself. Also last Saturday night I asked for a glass of water. It tasted like there was bleach in it. I'm guessing the glass was cleaned at the bar in their dirty dishwater with no rinse. Your mixed vegetables that came with my steak was from a can and they were soggy.
