We have been going to Hoot Owl Resort for 20+ years - and keep returning now that our kids are grown. Great food - always creative and flavorful! Friendly owners and very family-friendly! Plus great access to the trails!
One of my favorite times of the year! Excellent family owned resort. Very welcoming and kind, cabins are clean also, the lake is excellent, this is by far my favorite resort, if you’re looking for a relaxing time, this is it.

As of writing this, I have been to the resort twice and have been blown away both times. I go strictly to relax and do some fishing on the 84 acre Hoot Owl Lake. Both times, I was there for 4 days and nights. And I bet I caught over 100 fish each time. I would highly recommend giving this resort a look when considering a get away vacation, away from just about everyone.

Once again, the stay was fantastic! We love the restaurant available on the weekends. The brisket was so good! They are super hospitable and helpful. The beach is clean and fun for the children.

My husband's family has been staying at hoot owl for more than 20 years. However, this was my first time staying at this resort. The resort is run with very organized owners. We arrived to cabin 6 and it was very clean. The cabin was stocked with more than enough dishes, blankets and kitchen supplies. The fridge was also clean and large enough for a weeks worth of food. The beds are small but comfortable. The floor AC was wonderful and did a good job even on the hot day. It had spectacular views of the lake and trees.
We even had our own private dock and boat. When we first started fishing, it was on a Sunday and my husband mentioned that our boat has a tiny hole and kept taking on enough water to get our shoes wet. Christian, the owner, came down to check on us and we told him not to worry about the boat until the next day because it was the weekend. He almost immediately switched the boat out for us and then got to fixing the boat that leaked.
The lodge has scheduled events every day and even cooks food on Fridays and Saturdays. After driving 9 hours, that was the best burger we ever had. There are a lot of tables in the lodge, with games and puzzles. The beach area was great, clean and had a slide!
Here are some things the owners can possible improve in the future. Some improvements can be made to the playground. It was large area but very old and missing some magic. Maybe add a bench for parents to sit. Also, some blackout/thicker curtains to the bedrooms in the cabin! For those who don't want to wake up at 5am everyday lol. We ended up putting towels over the shear curtains so we could sleep till 7/8am.
We had a great vacation all in all and caught a lot of fish. Our kids were obsessed with the resort dog (an adorable wiener dog). The owner's family is very nice and attentive. Heather has a lot of experience in the hotel industry and it shows. Their kids are very sweet.
We will return one day.

We hosted a company retreat for 6 in cabin 11 and it was perfect! 🤩 Heather made sure we were comfortable, and made herself available to us for any need we might have had. She even delivered a pot of chili and cornbread to the cabin after they ran out of pizzas! I highly recommend Hoot Owl and look forward to returning!!
