I've been going here for years it's usually really good people tend to you quickly but recently The food is cold like it's been sitting out for awhile, some times under cooked. I used to come here all the time with family and friends but some thing has changed could be the the time of day.

The hibachi was good. The rest of the food was cold or bland. A lot of the staff kept staring at me. Not worth it for $25 per person.

Food was vey bland. Sweet and sour chicken has about 1/4 inch of batter so very doughy texture. Crab with no butter. Crab had been out so long it was dried in the shell and impossible to get out. No egg drop soup?

I had a great experience at Buffet Moon buffet The food was fresh and delicious, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. You can really tell they care about their customers. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and variety they offer. I’ll definitely be coming back again soon! Excellent place. From Somali. 08/10/2025.

Staff is not friendly. You come to the cash register and they don’t even talk to you unless to tell you the price , they bring you to the table and still don’t talk to you. I understand if English isn’t a first language but you should be able to still make small talk with customers. I have a resident that is developmentally disabled and they kept staring at him and maybe even me, a plus size woman. The whole time they stared I mean 45 minutes I kept catching them staring. Halfway through 15 minutes in I asked to be moved away from the buss station. On top of that they sit there and joke amongst each other giggling and probably talking about every staff that comes in. They sit on their phones and don’t pay attention to when people need a drink or their table bussed. The woman who appears to be the manager or owner isn’t friendly either. She stares as well and doesn’t greet guest and a lot of them show favoritism to older customers. I like the food but feel completely uncomfortable dining here due to disrespectful staff who need to learn etiquette.

🚫 Please stop supporting Great Moon Buffet in Maplewood 🚫

I’m sharing this to raise awareness after a deeply upsetting experience at this restaurant during what was supposed to be a joyful celebration.

Last night, we were celebrating my niece and nephew’s 9th birthday. They chose Great Moon Buffet. Despite past experiences that made us sick, we decided to give the place one more try.

We had a party of 20. My family of 5 arrived first, paid, and were seated. While I stepped away to the restroom, the manager came by, checked our receipt, and moved it to the head of the table.

As more guests arrived, others in our party came in, asking if we had a reservation and questioning whether we had space. Meanwhile, the birthday kids ran up to hug us, and that seemed to cause more confusion.

The manager then told everyone arriving to keep their receipts visible, as he was unsure who had paid. At that point, the only two unpaid guests were the children who ran up to say hello.

Then he said, twice:

“If you don’t like what I asked, I’ll check the cameras.”

I called him over and calmly asked: Why speak to paying customers like this? Why treat us like we’re trying to get away with something?

His response:

“Fine. Leave. I don’t need your money.”

So we asked for refunds and decided to go elsewhere. As he struggled to issue the return, (maybe due to an outdated card system), I expressed my disappointment:
• “This is your fault.”
• “You’re bad at your job.”
• “You treated us like we were scamming you, we weren’t. We have money, and this could’ve been resolved easily.”

Then he called the police and said:

“This man threatened me.”

That part didn’t even surprise me. It was just another reminder of what it’s like to be a Black man in public spaces—how your presence, your voice, and your confidence can be seen as a threat.

Police arrived. No threats had been made. Multiple guests were recording the entire interaction. It was a complete waste of everyone’s time—including the Maplewood officers, who were respectful and professional. Once told the situation Officers told us to go ahead about our day.
I left feeling disrespected, profiled, and deeply disappointed.

I share this so others know what kind of service and treatment they may be supporting.
Ask yourself: Who are you giving your money to? How do they treat people who look like me?

There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that know how to treat their customers—with dignity and respect.

Thanks for reading. I hope it makes you think twice.

There was a metal piece in my General Tso’s Chicken that I ate and almost swallowed. All they gave me was a discount for the next time I go here. My partner had 3 bones in one as well. Don’t recommend and won’t be back. ☺️
