Like many others who have lived in other areas, and know what Greek food is supposed to be, we all are starved for a proper gyro place. For some reason, the greater St. Paul area can't figure out this simple sandwich! A friend told us of Spitz, so we decided to check it out. The first impression is a bit of confusion, for a Mediterranean place it reminds me of a Mexican place, sorta..?? nothing about the place says Mediterranean. I get that people like to make fusion places (I never like them, but ok). Once inside it's confusing what to do next. Do I order and sit down? there is a bar, so do I order and then sit at the bar, or sit at the bar and order? The menu took a bit to figure out, but I have seen much worse. We sat at the bar so could observe the operation (I won't go into why, but I'll say I'm a bit of a nerd on human behavior studies, business processes, and more) watching those who came in after us, it was obvious every new customer felt as we did. confusion about what to do, and they struggled to find what to order on the menu. (Lots of science work has been done on menus, generally, you want the time for them to pick what they want in under 60 seconds, 30 is better! I watched several that took at least 2 minutes. We ordered gyros of course but luckily, I spotted the Berliner sauce listed on the ingredients. That sauce is for Döner NOT gyros. And they put the fries IN the gyros, no lettuce either. For the love of God could I just get a proper gyro?!! While at the bar waiting for our food, we again saw something that is an epidemic in this area, managers conducting their business in full view and earshot of customers. Folks, get an office in the back. Your real job at a restaurant is to create an experience for your customers, we don't want to see you doing your paperwork, making calls to vendors, reading mail, and so on. The other staff were talking amongst themselves instead of engaging with customers. Overall, it just screams unprofessional to those paying attention and creates a feeling of, "I don't like that place but don't know why" for those who are not. I see this all over in this area. The food came out, and bravo! They have the right flavors (without the darn Berliner sauce of course), the correct pita, the right flavor of meat (I mean this should be hard, but St Paul just can't seem to figure it out, and given that Chicago is just down the road...baffles me) good portions of meat too, they have the proper diced tomatoes, the tzatziki sauce is proper. Just lose the fries and add some lettuce and you will have it! About 5 seconds after my wife and I made these comments to each other, a guy came in and we heard him order a gyro, no Berliner sauce, add lettuce. Lol, my people! This speaks to my first point; we all are starved for a proper gyro. This guy figured out how to get one. So kudos to Spitz for at least making it possible even though we have to alter your offering. The fries are awesome, so another point! The bottom line is Spitz has a proper gyro if you know what to ask for, it is clean, and people are friendly, but this is not a Mediterranean place, it is confusing, management is not paying attention to details, and the moment a proper gyro place opens people will go there, or at least people like me. Till then I have a way to scratch the gyro itch, finally.

Came in about 4pm on a Thursday. No one else eating in, and got a happy hour Blood Orange Pryes beer and vegan wrap of some kind. The bright colors and atmosphere is great, and the food was delicious and the guys who helped me out were very friendly. I’ll be back because this is exactly my kind of restaurant.

Take out order, so can't comment on the atmosphere. Overpriced, and not good. Save yourself the money and hassle and go to Arby's if you want an decent gyro. I've had better gyros at the county fair. Over cooked, dry lamb, with some salsa on a toasted, dry pita. No tzatziki sauce, no onions. Horrible. And for good measure, they didn't provide any dressing for my Greek salad, which itself was subpar to average.

We tried Spitz for lunch on a weekday. It was not busy. The menu is extensive. We ordered 3 things to share since we hadn’t been here before. A Street Cart Wrap with chicken, fries and chicken wings. The wrap was really good, a generous size, big enough to share for a lunch. The fries were also good, seasoned so not just plain fries. The chicken wings were really small sections, flavor good, but we would not order them again. The dipping sauces were excellent. Service was just okay, the person delivered the food to our table and said he would bring plates, but never did. Decor inside was music oriented which doesn’t seem to fit with Mediterranean food, but interesting.

We added the Street Car Doner with beef and lamb to our repertoire, along with the fried pita and humus. All I can say is yumus!

I was very excited to have a middle eastern restaurant open up in Woodbury. I think their menu is fantastic with fresh vibrant ingredients. I have recommended this restaurant to several friends and they have have the same response as us- Great restaurant! Love the bowls and the loaded fries are fantastic. It is fast casual or we do pick up and service is timely and friendly. Healthy Middle Eastern. 5/5 Dan

6 Stars! Great food! Great service! Food came out quick, and lots of it. Also the artwork on the wall is pretty cool too. Will be coming back! They even gave us a free dessert as we came with a bigger group to celebrate a birthday!

People told me to go here for Gyro, sorry but was not good for me, hard to eat, tiki sauce bad, food was cold and I was 10 minutes early. Was sitting on counter not heated. Sweet Potato waffle fries ok would be better if hot. I would rather have from Arby's
