Mama J's sandwiches and more

After a short wait on a Monday night (there are only six tables, and they don't take reservations), we were seated by the friendly and masked staff. We had a Caesar salad (OK), pork chops (good), beef brisket (OK) and collard greens (good), followed by a bread pudding (very good). Service was very efficient, and the restaurant was quiet enough for easy conversation. The bill for everything, plus a Papa's Punch cocktail (OK), was about $60 before tip.
Great southern soul food spot. My first visit to Richmond. I was told to try out an Italian place first. We were very disappointed with the food. So, the second night we went with the first recommendation and trolled Mama Jesus. What a pleasant surprise. Great food all the way around l!
Limited staff and limited staff so there was a bit of a wait when we got there around 11:30. No big deal as the food and service was delicious. Efficient and friendly server. We ordered fried chicken, muffin, collard greens and they were all delicious. The chicken was well seasoned. Just be warn, make sure you drink a lot of water later because the food is on the saltier side. Otherwise, totally recommend checking out the place!
