Dropped off deer. Was told 4 weeks and we would get a discount for doing all the work even grinding it for them. 11 weeks later we get pickup call no discount and she couldn't tell me anything about getting a discount now. Nobody wanted to give discount and everyone in the building was upset with this place. I definitely will just drive further out and not use this place again for anything.
always great product and people, great service for lunch got to meet Carolyn yesterday š
Was wondering how they gave away samples of deer sticks during deer season has anyone ever asked? Iām 70 years old I have shot my share of deer Iāve have had a lot of deer butchered, and have butchered my own deer but never had this happen We took in a 8 point 175 lb. buck to be butchered and the math doesnāt add up we ended up with 21lbs. of deer meat no roast and no steaks just Deer burger. Maybe if they would use scales to weigh in the deer they would know how much Deer to give back. I feel we was cheated out of deer meat I have pics. before and after butchering.
Update to my post about Powell Meat Company. I have not yet paid the bill so who knows maybe they will impress me and try to make this right. As it currently stands it has been the worst butcher experience out of 7 different butchers in two different states that I have used. I turned my pigs in and they were supposed to be ready for pick up on the 24th of December, they were not ready, not a big deal it happens. They told me they would be ready on the 26th for pickup. My wife arrived and they were not ready. Powells apologized and agreed to deliver later that day between 2 and 3 for free, we agreed. We had people who had driven over 3 hours to pick up their pork. At 5:30 the van finally arrived with the pork, or should I say less than half of the pork. I had requested a copy of the cut sheets, and they were not provided. 1 out of 7 pigs complete. No hams or bacon for most. Only 1 box for another pig no pork chops, no hearts no liver. The next day I am told they are looking for the rest, and we start sending lists of pork that they kept finding and I kept telling them what was still missing. At one point they tell me that only 2 people requested heart and liver. I told them to read the cut sheets that all 7 requested them. I finally got the other half of my pork on the afternoon of the 31st a week late, or at least I got pork on the 31st, Iāll explain. We like many raise our own meat so we know what they are fed, how they are treated and that they arenāt pumped full of antibiotics and steroids, same with beef. When we got the boxes of pork the second time there were roasts with Powell meat prices on them that they had taken from their retail because they couldnāt find ours. There was a box of liver and heart. Not my liver and heart and not 7 pigs worth but somebodies from Powells retail. We also found it odd that we had 50+ bone-in porkchops for 1 pig, average is 30 bone-in. But you can guess how many some of the other pigs had, so we had to divide them up. We got tenderloin for 1 pig, I guess the other 6 just didnāt have them. Bacon same issues. Supposed to be 5 regular cut bacon and 2 thick cut bacon, I canāt see a difference. They are also the first butcher to cure my jowls and slice them ¼ā thick, the others all slice like bacon when you tell them you want jowl bacon. I have no idea whoās pig I really got definitely part of it was from somebody else.
I would also say that I think there is an issue with Powells hanging weight. Other people have said the same thing so I am not alone. When your pigs are all 300-350 and they hang at 250-300 there is an issue. Havenāt had that with the other butchers. The others also give you a live weight when you drop off, Powells did not.
We saw piles of deer carcasses in reefer vans and on the cooler floor. Wouldnāt take deer there and wonāt take any of my other business in the future. With all that said Carrie and Bre were very polite. Through the whole horrible experience Carrie was always polite and tried to get the correct amount of meat to me. I have to give them praise.
I hate to give bad reviews BUT, this has been a cluster. By far the worst experience I have ever had with a butcher. Haven't tried the meat yet and if they come back and fix things I will update this. So here goes. Butcher about 8 Hogs each year. this year 7 went to Powells. first the meat wasn't ready when they told me it would be. I had family drive 3.5 hours to pick up and left without pork. finally, they said they would deliver for free because they messed up (good comeback). The delivery was 3 hours late again had people waiting for their pork. Then my pork showed up (or some of it) with no bacon or ham and in 1 case a whole hog was missing minus 1 box. Again, I will update this if they fix it and make it right but still waiting for my pork to arrive.
We dropped off a deer to be processed on oct 21st. We just got back dec 13th. We had to pay the same price for a 40 pound deer as someone who had a 140 pound deer. They lost our first cut sheet and I had to call to check on when it would be ready only to be only yes you can pick up tomorrow. Their communication is terrible you also have to pay for boxes even if you bring your own cooler. JUST TERRIBLE WE WILL NOT BE USING THEM AGAIN.
The best steaks ever! Stopped on our way through Clinton to Springfield. Rib eyes as well as stuffed peppers were amazing! Terrific service from Caroline, Arita and Frankie. Thank you, we will be back!
I took in a deer that field dressed at 138 pounds. He was a big bodied 11 point buck. I had him ground into burger including back strap and loin. When I picked it up I got 34 pounds of burger total. This makes no sense to me. Use your own judgment!
I had a delightful experience while I didn't order any of the food and I should have. They had very reasonable prices, friendly service i will say that once hunting season gears up or they get really slammed it may take a little longer for them to get to you, just because they want to make sure everything is right. So during busy season, you may have to wait but it's well worth it. A recommendation is to get their texting. So you get texted that your product is done. Next year, I plan on buying a quarter of beef. Great place to get dog bones
Used to always stop through when driving through Clinton to pick up some steaks and pickled goods. Finally had a chance to stop in today after several years and itās even better than before. Huge selection of nothing but the best! The staff were awesome, helpful, and hilarious. Glad to see this place thriving! Iāll be back soon!
