Such a fabulous experience at The Elms and Three Owls restaurant. You must stay at the resort and relax at this establishment

We were here for dinner on Thanksgiving. I ordered the grilled bass over mushroom risotto topped with a Romesco sauce, it was delicious! My husband ordered the traditional lasagna, it was very pastey and dry, it would have been delicious if they would've topped that with the romesco sauce. Our tab was $78 with no drinks. Undecided if we will go back.

Three Owls at the Elms Hotel in Excelsior Springs was a nice place for dinner. We were seated right away and the ambience was cozy, especially with the fireplace going. We were able to choose our table, which made the experience feel relaxed and comfortable.

The food was good and tasted fresh. The only downside was how long everything took. There were only a few couples in the restaurant, yet each part of the meal felt slow to arrive. Maybe that is why their food tastes good. It seems like they take their time with every dish.

Overall it was a pleasant experience with a warm atmosphere and good food, just be prepared for a slower pace.

My husband and I stopped here today and went to the three owls restaurant. We sat at a table and waited quite a while for someone to notice. After waiting several minutes, my husband got up from our table and asked at the bar if we could get some service. “Oh, of course, someone will be right over.” We waited another good 10 minutes. There was hardly anyone in there so they couldn’t blame it on being busy. Finally after being ignored by other passerby waitresses, a server came to our table with water and asked us to move to another table because, “the one we sat at was dirty.” We asked her if they could just clean it off because it was in front of the fireplace. She said another server would be out. The server never came. We were out celebrating my husband’s birthday so it was a special day. At least we thought so. We had been to the Elms a couple of times before but we had never been treated this badly. After waiting again my husband was getting quite irritated and went to talk to someone, again. He got a grouchy old white hair headed woman that told him they were busy and would be there when they could. When he came back to the table, we were both disgusted and decided to leave. As we were getting ready to leave the grouchy woman came to the table with a menu. Mind you, no one offered us anything from the bar while we waited or even apologized for the wait. I decided to give it one more shot and asked her what they were serving because earlier she barked at my husband and told him they weren’t serving any dinners until 5:00. She shoved the menue literally in my face and barked,”ma'am, this is all we are serving right now.” She just kept barking and frowning at us. It felt like she would rather we got up and left so she didn’t have to serve us. So that is exactly what we did! We stood up and said we were leaving and she started talking over me. I told her I didn’t want to hear her talk anymore and we walked out. Absolutely terrible experience! We had never seen such terrible customer service. Her nasty attitude ruined the day!

I've tried almost everything on the menu at Wabash bbq. Nothing compares to the porkchops and steaks offered at this restaurant. The chimichuri sauce on the steaks is delicious and the porkchops are seasoned to perfection. Porkchops well done of course!

Had a great experience at the Elms Spa and the poolside bar and the hummus we ordered poolside was delicious. With that being said the 3 Owls restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. We were sat 45 mins after our reservation, they did make that right be providing a free appetizer. So at this point we were still expecting to have a great dinner. I ordered the pork chops, I am old school so I ordered it well done. It wasn't well done, there was no seasoning on it. Potatoes were instant and at $38 for the plate, I expected real or at least an attempt to hide that they were instant. Husband ordered the Sea Bass it came with a red topping that was way too much. And the risotto was gummy. Server told us she was new, but she seemed to be new w/o any training. We had to ask a busser to check on my husband's drink from the bar, because it had been 15 mins since it was ordered. It was there and watered down by the time he got it. Server was running to and fro but didn't seem to be doing anything. So disappointed!

The food is extremely overpriced for the quality. The French fries were obviously frozen and remind me of the fries served in a school cafeteria. The salmon was very greasy and the asparagus was undercooked. If you're going to spend $50+ per person, best to do it at a higher quality place

Beautiful looking restaurant, but overall our family agreed it was the worst dining experience we’ve had our entire lives. The food was terrible - the mile high lasagna was inedible by all 4 of us - dry, no meat, disgusting cheese covering it. The “truffle fries” were just regular fries with cheese on top again. The drinks - a bottle of beer and glass of wine took 20 minutes to get to us. The service was so bad we started to question if we were in on some kind of prank or joke. It was truly the worst dinner I’ve ever had and worst service and I left after an hour upset I was out $90. Super disappointing experience.

Have eaten dinner here more times than I can count and it is always delicious, seasonal, exciting food in a calm atmosphere. Great wine selection. It's pricey, but that is the point. Editing to add the staff are incredible, they are working extremely hard to manage a variety of needs, they and the chefs should be commended and tipped well.

The service was terrible. The server didn’t bring back steak sauce until we were done eating and didn’t refill drinks. Definitely not what you’d expect for the price. The food was fair at very best. Don’t waste your time or money.

I had high expectations of the food based on my experience at the spa and in the hotel itself. The food was not amazing, with the exception of the pork belly -that was amazing. I ordered the NY Strip steak and it was not cooked properly (I asked for medium rare and it was barely rare). They didn't offer to order a new dish or steak, but the manager offered to just to fire it up again and it took two tries, and a different server brought it over and asked if I wanted it medium, and I said no, medium rare but this isn't that. He didn't seem to agree. The Caesar salad was pretty bland, and I wished it would be good because I've had some amazing house made Caesar dressing and house made croutons -I've had better store bought salads, and there was even a $2 up charge. I ordered the potatoes and they were pretty, but not seasoned. The texture was off (maybe too much liquid), although again piped beautifully into the bowl. I wanted to be impressed but honestly I would not eat here again.

My husband and I stayed at the Elms for our 1 year anniversary. It is my fault that I did not check Google reviews beforehand, but we decided to just eat dinner at the restaurant to make things easier for us. We were highly disappointed. Everything on menu is $40+ and few items included sides, which are $12 each! Appetizers were not any more affordable either, ranging from $8 for bread (cheapest item) to $25 for the charcuterie board. Needless to say, everything was so pricey, we were hopeful that the entree would be delicious. I gave 2 stars for food because my salmon was decent and a decent portion (still did not enjoy paying $45 for that, with no side!!), but my husbands chicken was dry and the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes with no seasoning and also cost $40. He was still hungry afterwards as the portion was tiny. We listened to the dessert menu because I was curious, but decided I’d rather not pay to be disappointed. Multiple servers were wearing not one, but TWO masks, which I find to be odd and unnecessary in 2025 unless you truly have a respiratory illness, but then you probably shouldn’t be at work at that point anyway. Our server was less than enthusiastic, I never saw her smile or change facial expressions (but could have been the mask) and was extremely quiet, which was not helped by the mask. The whole experience was just sort of awkward, overpriced, and an okayish meal. Overall, sad we wasted so much money on a dinner that did not taste good.

Overpriced and underwhelming!
Ordered the acorn squash entree with quinoa salad ($29). There was hardly any squash! It was a hallowed out half of a squash stuffed with a bunch of onions (not listed in the menu description) and a flavorless quinoa. My husband had the filet which came on the plate with no seasoning, no side…but it did come with a house salad consisting of lettuce and shaved carrots with 2 cherry tomatoes($55). Being hungry from not having enough dinner I was hoping when our waitress told us about their homemade desserts, the meal would be salvaged. I ordered the chocolate ganache cake. It was a flavorless, dry Bundt cake with a drizzle of chocolate sauce on top ($12). We never mind paying for excellent dining & service but everything at Three Owls lacked in quality, quantity, and taste. Nothing upscale about this restaurant except the price!
