Acero is a casual, warm atmosphere. The service is top-notch; friendly, impeccable, knowledgeable. Based on on the choices that the two of us made, Acero's food runs from slightly innovative, but extremely good Italian to innovative, well-done, curiously non-Italian options. The menu we saw in mid0January 2026 was not exactly the menu shown on their website. The Mixed Green Salad was really good, while the Hamachi Crudo (which was weird to find at an Italian restaurant) was excellent. One of us had a mushroom pasta special that wasn't on the menu that was fragrant and tasty, the other choose a trout dish, thinking it might be rainbow trout, but it was a large portion of rainbow trout over excellent vegetables that had were sitting in too much olive oil. We had read several places that portions were small, that this was a "small plate" restaurant, but that we did not find that to be true. Acero is a great place for an excellent night out. The atmosphere is cozy and relatively quiet. The servers are terrific, but question them about the menu.

This place is always on my bucket list to visit when I return to St. Louis for the holidays. The menu is always rotating and evolving to incorporate a variety of options. Because we aren't in town often each time we go we ended up each selecting Acero's four course tasting menu that provides an abundance of flavor, fullness, and offered at an amazing price. Additionally, the serves, especially Jess, is always a delight.
Never again. I’ve frequented Acero for years however recently went in for dinner with some family. Before showing up I checked OpenTable and plenty of reservations were available. The hostess gave us a sneering look and said she would need to check with the manager. She returned and said nothing was available for us. To me it was a clear sign of profiling/judging. That will be the last day I step into this place. Very disappointed
