Wow! That was one impressive benedict!
I was here for brunch with a group of Yelp friends, the wife and Kid 2. Pretty much everyone at the table ordered a benedict of one sort or another and I just couldn't pass up the idea of the fried chicken benedict. Kid 1 considers herself a purist when it comes to benedicts and will only eat a traditional eggs benedict. If I followed that train of thought I would have missed out on one of the best brunch dishes I've had in years.
They have a variety of benedicts on the menu but not a traditional one. I was stuck between the idea of the house special which substituted duck for Canadian bacon and the fried chicken. Given that it was my usual lunch time and the spicy bloody mary I ordered had gone down smooth I decided to go a bit less traditional. What is brunch, after all, but a combination of breakfast and lunch. In this context, fried chicken atop a bread product with an egg and a sauce above made perfect sense.
From the bottom up: toasted english muffin, fried chicken (boneless) breast, poached egg that I think was fried a little too, smack-yo-mama good hollandaise sauce and then a sprinkling of capers.
Yes, it was a bit hard to manage to get everything onto the fork for each bite. Yes, the eggs were cooked a little over where they usually are for a benedict. Yes, the chicken was a bit darker from the fryer than expected. Yes, the hollandaise was a liberal interpretation of what is usually an elegantly simple concoction that requires just a few ingredients but a fair amount of skill to prepare properly. All of these were reasons why I could have liked it less. None of them mattered.
The dish just worked!

First time visitor. I enjoyed the food, especially the bread pudding! The service was prompt, but I didn't like that the waitress was hovering. It mae me feel rushed like she was ready for us to leave.

We have loved dinner at the Blue Duck but today was our first time coming for brunch/lunch and wow! We have been missing out!!! The house-smoked meats are amazing! The chicken is hand battered with the perfectly spiced batter. The breakfast burritos were delicious. The biscuits and gravy with house-smoked bacon and the added chicken was way more than I could eat, but it was so delicious! Fun, breezy environment with the best service! We were so impressed! Cannot wait to go back! The hardest part is choosing what you want from an incredible menu!!!

The service was good but not what I was expecting. The food is somewhat different but not flavorful. It’s a small family business so if that’s the goal to support small owners lower the expectations and you will have a better outlook.

Had the Classic Burger with everything and it was probably one of the best burgers I have had. The Duck fat washed bourbon was interesting ina Manhattan but kind of rounded out a great first visit. Will be coming back

Everything I’ve gotten from here has been delicious. By far the best macarons I’ve ever had. Highly recommend this for your lunch, brunch, or dinner needs.

The Blue Duck was a great Maplewood experience. Wonderful food, wonderful staff. Nice bathrooms!! Get the Pork Belly Cheese Fries, they won't disappoint. My only want for our late night visit was maybe a bit of a dimmer ambiance in the evening, especially for a place with such beautiful cocktails and a fabulous spirit selection. Thanks to Mary for above and beyond service.

Interesting concept, but a very good experience overall. It blends counter ordering with table service: you order at the counter, your food is brought to the table, and you pay at the table. Don’t mistake the ordering setup for fast food—the food and atmosphere are anything but. The food is excellent, especially the hand-cut fries. Strong beer selection as well. Highly recommend.

First time Duckers here. Great food. Everything made in-house, even the ketchup! I had a superb classic burger and handcut double-fried fries. AMAZING! Really nice staff. Can't wait to go back. Next time I'm saving room for dessert.
