We stopped for breakfast after camping on 4th of July weekend. I got biscuits and gravy and my boyfriend got corned beef hash. food was okay and the service was friendly and fast. There was a small town atmosphere and the noise level was quiet enough that you could talk. I would recommend his place. 7/10.

We had stopped here to eat and the service was over all good but they people were kind of weird because the guys who waited on us would just stand there and kind of stare and like try to over hear our conversation and just me i don’t really like people watching me eat that i don’t know. I personally didn’t order the buffet but my family did and some of the food was off to me the bread sticks was hard like it was left out. All of the food was looked like it was left out for hours or just reheated up again. The mashed potatoes seemed dry like it had hard pieces in it like it was made from instant mashed potatoes. I had the shrimp basket it was fine i didn’t really have a problem with it but has i was eating i saw hair on my food and i never got the dinner roll that it said it came with but after i saw the hair i was just done and didn’t eat anymore. I personally won’t be returning to this food place.

Potatoes were dried out but all the meat mac and cheese and ice cream was delicious. Ribs fried chicken Spaghetti meatballs.
Definitely a must try when you're in Monroe city!

Wonderful daily breakfast buffet for $12.50. Drink not included in this price. Also had fried chicken and chicken strips, breakfast pizza, hard boiled eggs and more. Worth the price. Small place, so seating can be limited after church. Arrive early or be ready to wait. Not a lot of eating options in Monroe City!

We decided to stop and try this establishment. First walking in the atmosphere was okay. I got the buffet my fiancé got their grilled chicken breast homemade Alfredo sauce “special”. The buffet was not great. The pork tenderloin was dry and resembled more of a tofu than anything else. The ribs were okay most of the food on the table was like warm. The green beans were the best part of everything. Unfortunately everything tasted as if it came from a can. The chili tasted like the can of off brand chili you get for chili dogs when you don’t feel like cooking for your kids on a late Monday night. The “special “ was MASSIVE!!! It was a huge amount of pasta. Enough food where two people could have eaten it and still had left overs. But the bread sticks tasted like it was from the previous day and was heated up by chef Mike “the microwave” the grilled chicken breast was definitely from a can. It’s not grilled chicken if it’s from a can. Is it even chicken? My fiancé took about 3 bites and we took it back to the campsite and gave it to our dog. The dog loved it, but then again the dog also likes to eat kitty box crunchies. I would not advice going here at all. Maybe if it was actual home cooked food or maybe even if it was good. I would expect this type of food from a church carry in that people made an hour before service because they forgot. If your looking for massive amounts of food that is cheap and maybe better than your mother in laws pumpkin soup then go here! If you want to eat something that does not taste like regurgitating unseasoned garbage then don’t.

The Monroe Family Restaurant has great food in a casual environment. It is good, home style, country cooking in a small town in rural Missouri. I have visited it about once per year over the past several years, as it was the favorite choice of a relative in the area.
The menu offers lots of choices for breakfast, lunch, and supper. Everything has been delicious. At lunch and supper, I always got free soft ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, or twist) for dessert. My husband had a huge slice of cherry pie tonight. They had a large selection of pies.
At lunch, they offered a buffet, but we ate supper there this time. When I saw the buffet previously, it had a large selection of main dishes and vegetables.
The fried mushrooms are delicious. The breaded tenderloin is very large in both the sandwich and the meal (with brown gravy). You almost need a 2nd bun. This large tenderloin is common in north central Missouri.

Parking: There is a very large, paved parking lot.

I had the country fried steak meal which included soup or salad. I chose the soup- it was not good. It was potato but was very grainy and unpleasant seasoning. The green beans had no seasoning. The gravy was just ok. My husband had chicken broccoli Alfredo— it tasted like bland jar sauce. I really had high hopes, unfortunately we won’t be back.
