The restaurant is full of character, with decor everything automotive. It has something for everyone, incredibly friendly waitresses (ask for Sarah), and good food. They have the BEST carrot cake and the potato salad was served warm and incredibly delicious too. Few restaurants we've visited recently have been so delightful.
Cool atmosphere that all ages can enjoy. Servers were super friendly and helpful. Had the Carolina smoked pork sandwich — it was so good!
Not all it was made out to be. Decent food but definitely not one to go out of the way for. Wings were definitely the best part.
Has the ribs. Very good. Wish they had an option for a Spicer sauce. My biggest complaint was ribs cooked too long and were almost mush. 1st time. Hope it was a mistake.
Even good food cannot override the rude, discourteous waitresses here. Unbelievably bad service and less than clean tables, etc. I truly do not see how they stay in business with the uncaring attitude of the servers and staff here. I've given this place several opportunities to show me that, perhaps, I just came on a bad day... but, enough is enough - I am done with this place and the rude, disrespectful staff.
The food menu is large and there is something for everyone. The food and drinks were good but the service can be hit and miss at times.
Went with my family and was seated right away, at a dirt table. Had asked for a high chair for my granddaughter they never brought Asked to get the table cleaned and the waitress said you can take that up with the hostess and flipped her ponytail at us. Turns out she was going to be our waitress we said no Got another waitress who brought the high chair it was disgusting asked to get the table cleaned and the high chair the waitress did a quick wipe on on spot of the high chair my daughter in law ended up going to get a rag herself to clean our area. Took over an hour to get our food and you can't ever find your waitress to get anything Food was so so
Took my family to Ethyls the other night. 9 of us. The wait wasn't bad, and I love the decor/setting. But it was all downhill from there. After waiting about 20 minutes to be seated, it took another 20 minutes for the server to take our order. Then after an hour waiting for or food, we questioned the manager, who told us one of the servers took our food by mistake. He apologized and said he would get it out as quickly as possible and give disccount on meal which he did. Food came in about 10 minutes. Was hot and looked good. Most everyone was satisfied with their food. But mine? Had the chicken and ribs. Ribs were ok, but the chicken was the toughest chicken I've ever had. I could barely chew it. Here is my issue. The manager when asked why our food was so long in coming out was well aware of the problem of the server taking the wrong food. But rather than coming to us, we had to go to him. A good manager would have come to our table immediately and explained things and told us how they would make it right. Didnt happen! Besides this and just average food, I can honestly say, if thats voted best in St. Louis, I feel sorry for you. Being from out of town and always taking my family for BBQ when I visit, I should have went with the best BBQ in town, Sugarcreek. If you like average, go to Ethyls.
1. I called ahead to reserve a table for 8. They don't take reservations. No problem. My wife and I arrived at 5:45 with the rest of our group due at 6pm. I put my name on the list requesting a table for 8. The hostess advised it would be 15-20 minutes. Mainly due to lack of staff, but that's ok I get it. She sat multiple tables of 2-4 people after us. 25 minutes later she still hadn't called me. I questioned the availability of a table and she accommodated us immediately. Somewhat invalidated the need for a list if she's not going to use it. 2. Upon seating, our waitress was very friendly and upbeat. Received our drinks and placed our food orders. 30 minutes later she returned apologizing that a "new girl" had misplace our food order. Our waitress comped us soup and salads. A nice gesture. We advised we did not have silverware when she took the salad / soup orders. She returned with the soup and salads. No silverware. We asked again for silverware. She went to the waitress station and began entering items on the point of sale system. We sat for nearly 10 minutes thinking she would return with silverware. I went to the hostess stand and collected the silverware myself. We were nearly done eating the salads when she come back with silverware. 3. I had ordered the "Cod Special" with broccoli and onion rings. When she brought it out. It was all cold. 4. This was the last straw for me. I understand Ethyl's is understaffed but that does not excuse the lack of concern. Serving hot food is "restaurant 101" Anything less is unacceptable and shows you couldn't care less. We were there at 6pm. At 7:19pm we had not been served yet. After an hour+ of waiting, then to get cold food just sets the tone of your lack of concern don't you think? 5. I have really enjoyed Ethyl's brisket and cold beer in the past and certainly hope to again. I brought my in-laws to Ethyl's. They were in town from Phoenix. They wanted to go someplace "local" We chose Ethyl's. I owned a restaurant for 11 years. If you're understaffed, the speed of service will suffer. The quality should not.
We each had a salad. Mine had smoked pork and his had brisket. Huge and very flavorful. Nice to have this option when traveling as it seems it’s hard to get enough daily vegetables!

First, the covid stuff. Staff wearing masks, but no distancing of tables. Next, the food. My wife ordered the cod sandwich. The "slab" of cod was huge. Don't think we have ever seen a piece of any fish this size on a sandwich. Nicely breaded and cooked perfectly. You know, part of this restaurant's name is "smokehouse", so I ordered a brisket sandwich. Sadly, there was almost zero smoke flavor on the brisket. No complaints with the service, I just would not order ANY of their "smoked" dishes. Da Kupuna
Stopped here for lunch based on the reviews. I was seated immediately and my server took my order shortly after. I had the pulled pork platter with baked beans and sweet potato fries. The pork was very tender and juicy. It didn’t have a lot of smoke flavor but it was very good. The beans were sweeter than what I prefer but adding some of the hot bbq sauce perked them up. The sweet potato fries were steak cut size and were very good. Overall a really good lunch. I would go again.
Visiting from Louisiana and we were out shopping/browsing. Decided to stop for lunch. Found a great place with fabulous food, service, and atmosphere. I got BBQ Nachos, hubby got Ribs and son had Reuben. All of it was fantastic!! We will visit again and son said this will be his new hot spot.
Second time to try to order curbside this month. First time I was told they were busy and would not take our order. Today set on hold for 19 minutes transferred to the Bar only to be told they were busy and my salad and porksteak order would take over 1 and 1/2 hours. It's great that Ethels has so much business they don't need curbside or carry out service. You would think they would have improved the carry out process by now but I guess it's more of a bother for them.
I would give them 2.5 stars. Service was good but the food had little flavor. There was no salt or pepper on anything. My chicken was dry a** bone. Very disappointing especially for the price.
