Getting to this restaurant is easy - its on Olive St. Rd. in Olivette just west of 170. There is a good size parking lot on site. The place is decorated in the typical Mexican restaurant style you see across the USA. Its a big place and there are televisions around for those that want that.

We were seated in a booth near the bar. The seat on one side was sliding around and needs to be repaired. When we arrived the place was very quiet and there were only a handful of patrons. The atmosphere is a bit cold - the tall exposed ceiling and cement floor does nothing to make the place feel warm. This is an old restaurant and it looks like a good cleaning and remodeling could be done.

Our server was ok but not quick which was surprising due to the few people in the place. Chips and salsa came and the chips tasted off and they were cold - generally they serve them warm and fresh. We asked the server about this and she brought us different chips saying the warmer of the chip station had not been turned on. Odd since the restaurant was open for lunch and we had arrived at the beginning of the dinner hour. Although the chips were not warm they still tasted off - not fresh.

We ordered a Sampler Appetizer plater to share and only one item seemed to be freshly prepared the other were actually cold - like they were left over from lunch or served our of a fridge. After we spoke to our waitress about the issue she spoke to a manager who came to our table and apologized for the food, said there would be no charge for our meal, and asked if they could prepare us a fresh and hopefully hot meal. We ordered Chicken Fajitas. When they came out the server lit them fire quickly at table side. From a temperature perspective they were fine. However from a taste and serving size perspective they did'nt - the chicken was dry and the peppers and onions were gummy and overcooked.

When we were obviously ready to leave the server came to our table and apologized again and told us she would bring us a check. Odd since the meal was supposed to be on them. The bill was for the two beverages we had ordered which were fine.

Would I go back or recommend this restaurant to anyone. NO!
It is clear this was more than a off item or even a bad day in the kitchen. Mexican restaurant should be able to consistently serve their most basic item warm or hot - chips with fresh salsa that both look and taste fresh. Every item of food we had was off. While we were grateful for the apologies they failed at the basics and we went home nauseated. Pass.

Absolutely amazing dinner tonight! Highly recommend coming here for both dinner and or happy hour! House margaritas and watermelon candy shots are AMAZING! For food, I recommend the fajita chicken nachos and the BBQ chicken quesadilla! Quick service and super nice employees. Will definitely be returning.

Chevys Mexican Restaurant, located on Olive Boulevard, offers a compelling dining experience, particularly highlighting its impressive happy hour offerings. The establishment successfully blends a vibrant atmosphere with a menu that caters to diverse palates.

The happy hour specials at Chevys are a significant draw, providing excellent value without compromising on quality. The selection of appetizers, such as the BBQ quesadilla and nachos, demonstrates a thoughtful approach to crowd-pleasing favorites, executed with a satisfying flavor profile. Complementing these dishes, the margaritas are well-crafted, offering a refreshing and potent accompaniment to the food.

Overall, Chevys on Olive Boulevard presents itself as a reliable choice for both casual outings and those seeking enjoyable happy hour deals. The combination of flavorful dishes and well-made drinks makes it a noteworthy destination for Mexican cuisine enthusiasts.

Prior to tonight it had been about a decade since eating here. We'd been talking about how we missed Chevy's and, since we were in the area tonight, we decided it was the perfect place for dinner. You know how you often remember things tasting better than they actually did (or do)? Well, we had the complete opposite experience tonight. The food was at least at good, if not better than I remembered. The prickly pear margarita was delicious. The service was phenomenal. It's not authentic Mexican, but it's great Tex-,Mex.

Had a college graduation party tonight in the “private” side of the restaurant. We had over 60 people. The coordination by manager Sean was unmatched. From the initial coordination all the way to the follow through and suggestions he provided. The night could not have been better organized and communicated.

Our servers Roberto, Sky and Tiffany were AMAZING. They handled our huge group like complete professionals. Everyone left happy and full of great food. They were even able to trouble shoot some small issues like kids needing special foods, etc.

If you need a place to have a private party, this is your place!

This has to be the worst Mexican food in STL dare I say America. It taste like an person who has never had Mexican food before said let me open a restaurant.

We had hair in our salsa.

Our server moved very slow.

I got the appetizer platter and not a single thing on the platter looked like the photo on the menu nor did it taste good.

My sister got the birria taco which were also not great.

Then to top things off the server stole money from my sister's card. Charged her extra on the tip after being tipped by me and by my sister in cash. My sister had to call and speak to the GM.

Horrible food, horrible service, cute atmosphere though.

The only problem with Chevy's is that they left O'Fallon.
