Couldn't even get anyone to seat us. Stood at front host desk around 3:13 pm today. No one acknowledge us . Bartender sees us says nothing. My husband walks upto him and he says they are probably on the phone and he turns around and proceeds to help people who sat at the bar after we walked in.

I took my wife to Char Bar in Parkville this past Saturday 11/22 for her birthday. I called ahead and the gentleman told me that they really don’t take reservations and that they weren’t busy (no wait), go ahead and come to the restaurant. So, we went (would have been our 2nd time dining there). Arrived at the restaurant 2 female hostesses greeted us, I ask “it’s my wife’s birthday would it be possible to get a nice booth inside”? The girl said “No we are pretty busy”, the other girl questioned then first girl then proceeded to take us outside to a table that was wrought iron next to a door that was propped open. NOTE that as we were being taken to the table outside, I looked around at all the empty tables and booths throughout the restaurant. I asked again if we could have one of the empty booths inside…the weather was pretty chilly outside. She would not accommodate, my wife asked for her to close the propped open door to at least eliminate the cool draft coming in the door. She replied saying “I cannot close the door”. So, evaluating that it’s my wife’s birthday, I wanted to make the occasion somewhat nice atmosphere/decent food, and after talking with three different people about getting a table…it was apparent that they were not interested in the customer’s experience. I asked my wife to follow me, and we walked out the open door across the street to Whiskey River Pizza and Pub. It couldn’t have been a better choice and experience. 4.5-5.0 stars each time I’ve been there (great tasting food, friendly service, cozy atmosphere). As far as Char Bar…disappointed. I was also there to purchase $50 gift cards (x6) for each of my kids and friends for Christmas…and FYI the total bill at Whiskey River was $82+tip. Summit Grill will also be getting the business for the gift cards.

My husband dined in but brought home a piece of the peach bread pudding for me. I was stunned when I opened the container. The bread pudding was almost completely burned. The 3 decent bites I was able to dig out of the middle were pretty tasty, but the rest was completely inedible. This should have never left the kitchen, and at a cost of $10...unacceptable!

Everything we had was dry and way over cooked. Chicken dry and hard, brisket the same way. Biscuit was hard as a rock and not the right kind. Okra was also way over cooked. Only patrons there, should have been a sign to stay away. Honestly the worst BBQ in KC. I want my $100 back for this trash.

Service was good. A little slow with the drink refills. Had the ribs, brisket and burnt ends. All three fell short of what I was expecting. Reheated and dry. Brisket was lacking smoke flavor or any flavor at all. Burnt ends were tough and again lacking flavor. The ribs were average but clearly reheated or left in a warming oven. The sauce was good and added some bbq flavor. Fries were fresh and the bbq beans were good. For the money there's better bbq options. I guess if you want to play pickle ball or corn hole while you wait this is the place for you.

I ordered from Uber eats and they failed to give Uber eats one of the bags and I called them and they told me to come get the bags which is 7 miles away when I ordered delivery and they failed to even provide a gift card or something that I can come pick up later they said I have to go through Uber. Uber gave me two dollars for $150 meal which is missing three of the sides and all of the sauce for barbecue which if you’ve ever ate barbecue needs sauce. Unbelievable that they wouldn’t even give us a credit or a gift card to be able to go in at a different time when we obviously ordered delivery because we were busy.

We love this place, but they can do so much better. We went a few weeks ago for an early evening meal on a nice weather weekend. It was about 75 degrees, nice and sunny, slight breeze so we wanted to eat on the covered patio. The server said it was full, so seated us inside. The patio was only half full, but they neglected to staff it. Inside service was fine but they refused us outside service. I'm doing better than a review now by going to Johnny's with the family tonight. I know you can do better Char Bar

Dined at Char Bar in Parkville this evening...it was a joy. Best Shrimp and grits I have ever had..our waitress April K just killed it...by the end of the of the evening she felt like more a friend than just a part of a staff. Just had such a great time at this family friendly...super chill...excellent food...excellent service experience....will return many times again.

Server was great, food was amazing (first timer here), and the only knock on atmosphere was that more people weren't there, but they are tucked away and hard to see from the road.
