I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed my favorite local place before! We’ve been stopping in here for several years now. We love stopping in here after our bike rides or runs. Super convenient being located right on the Rock Island Trail in Raytown. The staff is wonderfully friendly. It has bike parking. Outdoor seating in nice weather. And now that the parking lot is getting paved, that will be so much nicer to sit outside with no dust! They keep coming up with new drink mixes and flavors, so even if you are not a beer drinker, there is something you’ll love! The wine slushees are especially tasty on a hot summer day!

August 2025 Edit: they have “temporarily” closed. With little to no communication with their customers. New ownership has declined the service drastically. No info if they will even reopen. Sad 😞
9/5/25 Edit: News is out. Crane has permanently closed.

This place used to be one of my favorites. About a year ago I started noticing some changes, and unfortunately it’s just not the same anymore. These days it feels like a shell of what it once was — hardly any beers on tap and they rarely seem to be open. What really made Crane special in the past were the bartenders. They were awesome and created such a fun, welcoming atmosphere. Not that the new staff are bad, but the old crew really elevated the whole experience. Sad to see what Crane has become.

Disappointing.
This sure used to be a 5 star place, but I can’t in good faith tell people to go here. New management or ownership seems to not get what made Crane great in the past.

The beer menu has been slashed in half, and from that half many beers will be out when you are there. To add to that, they seem to be unable or unwilling to serve food from the menu anymore.

The new parking lot was supposed to allow them to start actually having a food menu, but things have just stagnated. Events are few and far between, and their menu does not seem to rotate seasonally like it used to.

Creatively dead, limited taps, and dirty bathrooms. I no longer tell people to go here, and I wish I didn’t have to do that! The new ownership seems to be trying to use their previous reputation to sell you a lesser experience.

My husband and I stopped here after a 30-mile ride a couple weeks ago. Wonderful atmosphere. The owner was super friendly and welcoming. Grilled cheese was awesome. I also recommend the pomegranate slushy! Great way to relax after an evening ride.

I love the food and drinks but they run out of food quickly and sometimes the bartender on duty is just rude. It makes the whole experience ruined.

If your plan is to embrace the great outdoors and ride your bike, stroll, or run along the picturesque Rock Island Trail, you might be tempted to pause for a friendly chat with someone behind the counter or indulge in a bite at Crane Brewery. I suggest you prepare a sandwich beforehand. Unfortunately, during my visit, the only options available were some uninspiring hummus and pita bread—far from the full menu promised. When I inquired about dining there, I was met with an unexpectedly harsh and disdainful response from the woman behind the bar. It felt as if her irritation was misplaced, as if I had unwittingly committed a grave offense.

Despite my efforts to enjoy a quiet meal, her brashness turned the experience sour. Just because I prefer a leisurely ride over getting inebriated and cycling for miles doesn't grant anyone the right to treat me with such contempt. Her reaction was as if I had just offended her deeply, as if I’d kicked her beloved dog. However, I must say that the Rock Island Trail itself deserves two enthusiastic thumbs up; it remains a beautiful escape into nature that I will always cherish!

Fantastic! It was a legit good time being there. I don't get out to a lot of other KC breweries, but Lauren, I think it was, was very thoughtful and frankly badass in her bartending work!
I'll be back!

Crane Brewing is our favorite little off the trail place to go after a beautiful ride on the Rock Island Trail. Their hopped lemonade is delicious and my husband loves the house beer. Quaint is a great word for this place. The food is good too for a snack after a bike ride. Today, the ONE person who was working a packed house by himself did a great job! No bad attitude from him even though the line was continuously out the door and every table was full. We will be back but please get your guy some help!!

One of my favorite local places. With the staff changes or whatever is going on it's just not the same. Sure they are still super friendly but the music is often off now, the vibe is boring, and don't ask for a mixed drink anymore some of the bar tenders don't even know how to make the drinks on their menu... So hopefully they will pull it back together soon.

Breweries are my jam! So when I found out Crane had their own, I had to come! I love the homeyness this brewery gives! Tried their Vast Lands at a Hyvee, & fell in love instantly! I mean obsessed with the beer! I made the mistake of thinking it was an IPA ??‍♀️, however, the taste was super smooth! Now, my obsession was real because I called prior to coming to see if it was still in season. Unfortunately, it isn’t. The Blood Orange Vast Lands is just as tasty! The staff are incredible! Will definitely be coming back!
