I have dug here twice now and I'll be back again. The owner is amazing and very accommodating. The digging here is not super easy. Be sure you have your rock hammer, gloves, and chisels. There are some enormous geodes here (I took one home that was 65#, but I haven't opened it yet) but be prepared to work for them. Lots of calcite in these which make them heavier so voids can be deceiving.Be sure you bring water and something for shade if the weather is hot. Other than that, you'll have an amazing time!

My husband and I have been digging for geodes for 3 years now and we have been to many places in the Keokuk area. We had the chance to visit Saint Francisville geodes and we had the best time there. The owners were amazing and nice we dug for 4 hours and 477lbs later we were heading home. This unbelievable place is amazing and we have huge geodes that are amazing you will not regret going there. We will definitely be going back very soon.
Some geodes are just sitting around like he took a skid loader and moved some earth, others you’ll have to dig for in shale (not sure it broke in layers, sort of). I brought a pick axe, rock pick, gloves, and goggles. Should have brought a spade for when I loosened larger amounts of shale.Only took one large one, but it was a good one. The smaller ones were ok, nice white quartz, but pretty solid all the way through.I spent about a hour or two there. Had my two younger daughters, 9-11, so they got bored as the digging part was pretty hard.
Fun place to dig, with lots of geodes. Bring tools for hard shale, and dig in.
Hard clay digging, nicer & bigger geodes/nodules, pay by the pound
