We’re visiting from Australia and have had everything from truck stop coffee to in house boutique coffee roasters. Crooked Tree do some of the best coffee you’ll find anywhere here in the USA. Our 20,000 miles of road trips have taught us that some places are passionate about their coffee. Crooked Tree is top of the tree. Great coffee and friendly service. Thank you 🙏

A Little This_ A Latte That

This is an honest, objective review from two coffee aficionados that own a high end espresso machine and manage a coffee shop (we like going to local places to locate the best and telling others where to find it): Using a 1-10 scale for this review, we would rate this coffee shop as an overall 3. The atmosphere was lovely, beautiful to admire, and cozy to sit in and dine. Ordering was easy by standing at the counter. They brought the drinks and food to the table. The prices were decently priced, with a 20 ounce latte as $5.10, a 20 ounce drip coffee as $2.32, a cinnamon roll as $5.50, and the French toast platter as $11.00. This review is only based on these four items ordered.

The attendant taking our order was nervous and stated as such for being new. While we waited, we observed them making espresso: they did not weigh the grounds in the portafilter, therefore creating a weak shot for the latte, which means it had more water running through less grounds. The drip coffee was the light roast and my husband stated that the Sunserra roast from Starbucks was far better than what he had for his drip coffee. The cinnamon roll was excellent with copious amounts of cinnamon but under proofed and flat; it also had an indescribable flavor that I did not enjoy and couldn’t figure out. The cinnamon french toast plate looked beautiful; it came as described from the menu. However, the bread had a metal butane flavor; something just did not taste right from this bread. I do not care for amaretto but the filling was nice with the fresh fruit. The bread arrived cold.

This establishment was busy with people staying, and coming and going, even on a very rainy day. Overall, we are glad we experienced it but would not return.

Crooked Tree is one of my 2 favorite coffee shop haunts in the City of St Charles. It has great atmosphere and great coffee! It gets a bit chilly in the building when winter hits, but all good for an older building

Wonderful little place, nice atmosphere, ample seating for groups 1-4 people. The speciality coffee wasn’t overly sweet, the food was fresh, the menu has a lot of variety. Staff are very friendly, service was excellent. Will come back.

Coffee is always burnt, they don't know how to make espresso either.. Frappes are always melted, with large chunks of ice, just not blending them. Didn't use to be like this but for the last 3 or 4 months it seems like it's always completely new staff and the training must not be very thorough. I've tried to write these experiences off as one offs, give them grace with all the new employees. But I can no longer patronize this business. It's been consistently horrible, inedible, not even palatable, for at least 3 months.

I have travelled a lot and been to a ton of coffee shops, and the dreamsicle latte I had was one of the best I’ve had’. When I come back to visit family I will definitely stop back in.

We stopped at this cute little coffee shop on our most recent travels and it did not disappoint! The baristas and staff are attentive and the food is fast but very fresh. We had delicious coffee and you can’t beat a latte in a ceramic mug. I had the pistachio cream and it was delightful and well balanced. The food was warm and tasted good. We definitely appreciated the cute atmosphere and space for a little one to walk around while out of the car.

Parking: Parking was really easy to navigate and right to the side of the cafe!

Kid-friendliness: The space is nice and open and easy for kids to navigate. There is games available for older kid/ make sures your kids are attended to though a cute sign says that they will be given espresso and a free puppy if they are not! 😂
