We love Steak ‘n Shake but nearly every time we go the order is messed up, something is missing, not made right, the taste is off etc.We have tried what feels like every OPEN restaurant from Festus to Lake St. Louis.Imagine our surprise when we pull in today and place an order for 3 double steak burgers and a chili 5 way and not only was everything made correctly, the fries were fresh and hot and cooked perfectly. The steak burger-The first bite tasted like what a Steak N shake burger used to taste like 25 years ago. So fresh! The chili 5 way was made correctly and the right amount and delish!I’m seriously impressed as was my husband. He just said “man, if I would have known the burger was gonna be that good I would have bought two of them.”So IDK if the universe aligned and the burger Gods decided it was the perfect staff, grill guy, manager etc but if you guys keep pumping out this quality we will make the drive every time.

The kiosk is just sad. No real human contact and they want you to leave a tip!!! Why???? The service is gone. There is no customer serve. I have been three times now hoping it was just a fluke and it was not. The place is dirty, I waited 25 minutes to get my order. they gave my order to another customer, they were completely out of salt. The ice machine was broken son no ice. They have taken almost everything off the menu. No breakfast, no turkey sandwiches, no taco salads and more. It is just a huge disappointment and the food that is still on the menu is mediocre.

This steak n' shake has moved to a full kiosk system. Avoid it if you were wanting table service.The food was great, and even with inflation, their 4 meals deal has only gone up a dollar. It has an updated feel, almost retrofurism rather than a pure diner aesthetic. It's a great place for a late night snack with friends after an event.Parking: This place is slow enough that you will usually find parking, but if it was busy, you might be circling the restaurant.

The place has changed a bit since I worked there 42 years ago... but the food is still awesome!!! I miss the waitresses over the new kiosk ordering system, but again, the food remains excellent.
