The selection and quality are amazing. Look out Nathaniel Reid.

The service lacked passion (maybe they're exhausted from baking all night) and seems to be scattered or inefficient behind the counter.

The ambience ... what ambience? Would love to see more outdoor seating options and any vibe in the dining area. The stools at the counter need to be trashed, incredibly uncomfortable.

Take it to go ... and it's AMAZING which I guess in the end is what you rrally pay for.

I was very unhappy to be charged $10.00 for a latte. I ordered it with half and half and was unaware of the $3 up charge nor was it posted. I believe it was the owner that failed to tell me that I could have my latte with half and half but there would be a $3 up charge. Had I known I would have skipped the half and half and got milk instead. I ended up spilling my $10 cup of coffee because the lid came off as I entered my car. I just brought it back in and set it on the counter. I was not a happy camper! Finished off the morning pulling into Starbucks for another cup of coffee. What an expensive day! If there's an increase in price it might be best to tell the customer about that increase.

A great selection of bakery, smells amazing! The ham and cheese croissant is delicious, I also ordered jasmine green tea. It’s loose tea instead of tea bag. Chocolate croissant is great as well. Have room to dine in and people works there are really helpful.

This is technically a 4-star review, but only because I have absurdly high expectations—and Sucrose basically meets all of them. So yes, I knocked off a star, but it’s for something petty and probably irrelevant to most people. Just needed to say that upfront.

I don’t know exactly where Agi is from, but she clearly knows her way around a European bakery. Maybe she’s American, maybe her family just has serious roots in Europe, I don’t know. What I do know is that this is the only place I’ve seen outside of France that actually sells canéles. And not only do they sell them—they’re better than the ones we used to get at our bakery in France. Same with the quiche. I genuinely dream about it. Like actual daydreams. It’s rich, perfect, and better than what we had back home.

Now before you assume our old French bakery was mediocre—no. That place was so good it put five other bakeries out of business. Their baguettes were legendary. So when I say Sucrose is on that level (and sometimes better), I’m not exaggerating.

La Bonne Bouchée tries. It was started by a Frenchman, but… yeah. The baguettes are sad. The croissants are too tidy. If I don’t leave with flakes all over me and a mild sense of regret for not bringing a lint roller, it’s not a real croissant. Sucrose gets that. Their croissants are the only ones I’ve had in the U.S. that actually taste and feel like real croissants.

So why the missing star? The price. $5.25 for one croissant is hard to swallow. I get it—they’re using the good stuff, and it’s a real croissant, not the weird grocery store versions—but still. I’ve bought the same imported French butter from Whole Foods. I’ve made croissants with it. You can get like 8 out of one block. But, they’ve cornered the market, and it shows. I keep buying them anyway and immediately complain to my husband every time. It’s a ritual now, and I will never stop.

Also, the macarons had a bit too much air once. That’s literally it. I’m nitpicking.

All that said, we love Sucrose. My husband is French and it actually feels like home to him when we go. We’ve never been disappointed. I tell everyone about this place. Just maybe go in knowing you’re going to need a second mortgage for a box of pastries, but it’s worth it. It is WORTH it.

First-time visitor met up with a good friend for coffee. Can't compliment the flavor and aesthetic of the brown sugar and rosemary latte enough! Delicious savory croissant, chocolate cream tart, and chai latte, as well. Staff are warm and welcoming. I wish I didn't have to drive 30+ minutes to get there, but it sure is worth the drive! My friend and I stayed for over 3 hours.

I've been enjoying this wonderful family-owned bakery for several years! Every single time, the service is outstanding and the food is to die for. I'm never disappointed!

This is a world class bakery and a must for anyone passing through St Charles. Everything (pies, pastries, breads) is top notch, but the Carmel tart was our favorite. Never had caramel that good in our lives. Can't offer a higher recommended.

I am always nervous going to coffee shops, as I'm really socially anxious and don't know much about coffee....but the workers here are SO KIND! They'll let you take time, answer questions, explain ingredients and flavors....all without making you feel silly or rushed. Easily my favorite breakfast/brunch spot now!
