The coffees are consistently excellent, as are the donuts, donut holes, and cinnamon rolls, which are remarkably fresh and delicious every time I visit. The salsa is truly one-of-a-kind and, in my opinion, the best. I am also so IN love that it’s pink inside and it’s just so my vibe!! Uplifting and bubbly!!!

Best Donuts – Sedalia: A Story of Dough, Napkins, and Diet Coke

It was a fine, too-early Tuesday morning in Sedalia, Missouri—the kind of morning where the sky’s still trying to decide between sunrise and fog, and everything feels like it needs just five more minutes. Except for Best Donuts. That place doesn’t sleep in. It rises with the yeast.

The “Open” sign glowed like a beacon, calling in early risers, truckers, bleary-eyed workers, and the occasional local legend—like Debra, who knew exactly how many napkins it took to conquer a cream-filled long john without becoming a walking dessert.

Inside, the air was thick with the scent of sugar and fried dreams. Glazed, old-fashioned, crullers, twists—they were all stacked behind the counter like trophies. A bell jingled as Kenny came through the door, holding a crumpled five-dollar bill and scanning the counter like a man with a mission.

“Three glazed, one chocolate sprinkle, and a Diet Coke,” he grunted.

Lucky—who wasn’t technically on the clock but just liked hanging out there after his shift at Grab n Go #6—nodded and passed him a Styrofoam cup, already filled. Kenny didn’t ask how Lucky knew—some things are just understood in Sedalia.

Then came the great napkin debate. Kenny reached for a handful—a generous handful—which caught the attention of Miss Phyllis, the keeper of the front counter and unwritten rules.

“Sir,” she said politely but firmly, “you don’t need that many napkins. Save some for the next guy.”

Kenny paused, holding his sugary breakfast and frowning at the modest stack in his hand. “Have you seen how much glaze is on these?”

Meanwhile, a little kid with a jelly donut and a sugar rush brewing in his eyes piped up, “He always gets that many!” and took off toward the door like a sticky missile.

Phyllis rolled her eyes. Lucky shrugged. Kenny took his Diet Coke and found a table.

And there, in that sacred donut shop, the morning unfolded like always: slowly, sweetly, and with just a hint of powdered sugar in the air. The napkin count might vary, the Diet Coke might be a little flat, but the dough never lies.

Because in Sedalia, when the world feels a little too much, there’s always Best Donuts—a warm bite of peace, and maybe a slight argument over paper products.

Worst customer service. The young lady working the front counter was extremely rude, rolling her eyes, and just ready to get us out of there.
