After seeing a couple of posts about a gigantic ham steak, I had to check it out for myself—so this morning I took a drive to Mama’s Place.
It’s a small, rustic café right on Main Street with that classic hometown feel. I seated myself and was quickly greeted by Liz, the manager and one of the servers, who made me feel welcome right away. When I looked at the menu, I honestly asked if they were running some kind of special because the prices were shockingly low for what you get.
I ordered the ham steak breakfast with eggs, hash browns, biscuits, and gravy—and in under five minutes my plate hit the table. I was blown away. The ham steak was easily ¾-inch thick, perfectly grilled on the flat top, and absolutely delicious. This may be the best southern country breakfast I’ve had in years, and it was only $10.99.
I chatted with Liz and learned the current owner bought the place from the original owner a couple of years ago and wisely kept everything the same. If you’re anywhere near Seneca, this spot is a must-try. The food is outstanding, the prices are unbelievably reasonable, and the experience is pure small-town comfort. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you like small town diners you will love Mama's place. I had an omelet and hash browns and they were cooked to perfection and generous portions. My husband had a burger and he said it was very good. There's a table where the locals rotated in and out to sit and visit with each other. There is a counter with bar stools from the '50s or earlier. Overall it was a great experience and felt like we were stepping back in time. That's what I love about Seneca Missouri, small town values, friendly neighbors and an amazing community spirit.

Both burgers onion rings and fried mushrooms were great. Very flavorful. The side of white gravy though was extremely thick like potatoes and cool. Have to wait longer then liked but food was great overall.

Liz was the best server I have ever had. She was kind, sweet, strong and always had a smile. The food Is all made completely fresh and it might take a bit longer but the wait is more than worth the food quality. I highly recommend this restaurant!

An old style small town cafe. Large portions of good home cooked food and friendly personal service. Order a piece of Coconut Cream pie!
Small town diner feel with huge portions of great food. So much better than the big chain restaurants.
