This was the second time we have eaten at Jalea. We had a wonderful experience the first time. This time, not so much. Our server seemed less than thrilled to serve us. We were never offered refills on our beverages and were not checked on after we got our food except when we got the bill. When the server was there, they walked away before we could ask any questions. We both ordered the Jalea Mixta and were not impressed. My husband has food sensitivities and was unable to eat the dipping sauces, which he is used to. But it was frustrating that no alternatives or different options for a sauce were offered.
But the most frustrating part of the experience was that we were told that our gift card that was less than a year old was expired and could not be used. There was no expiration date on the card. We should have asked to speak to a manager but were so caught off guard. The server threw the gift card away so there was nothing else we could do. We were really looking forward to the evening, but overall it was a huge letdown.

First time having Peruvian food and it was all delicious! We started with the grilled bread and shrimp cerviche which had a unique mixture of flavors, every bite was savored. We also shared the chicken curry, a winter menu item that was very good. With a backdrop of St Charles Main Street at Christmas, it was a meal and an evening to be remembered.

A hidden gem in the heart of St. Charles! Delicious food and impeccable service. Each course was a delightful surprise, from the cocktails to dessert. It's family-owned; I had a brief chat with the waitress about how the menu changes with the seasons, and she mentioned that her brother is the chef. I highly recommend it and will certainly return!

Have eaten there twice and both times have been outstanding. Food is fantastic. Service is very good. Will definitely be back plus love it is a family run business.
Parking: Street parking available but may not find a spot depending on time of visit. However 2 blocks over is a large parking area.

This was an absolutely delicious meal. Tried the plantain chips and the bread, the chicken curry and the lomo saltado. Every single thing was excellent. Service is fantastic and welcoming. Overall excellent food in a very well run restaurant by people who clearly care . Loved the Pisco Sour. Really wish the chaufa had been on the menu! Will try their other restaurant on Delmar for sure!

Overpriced garbage. I genuinely have no idea what people see in this place. I paid $38!!! for a fried rice dish that had less than a square inch of meat in it. Everything was over salted and most of our dishes were inedible. Genuinely mind-blown that this has high ratings.
