St. Charles Black Bear Diner

I've driven by this place for years and finally tried to give it a try. I should have continued passing it. The staff seemed less than enthusiastic about having a customer in the building. A few minutes after I was seated by a bored-looking hostess, my "waitress" came over to take my drink order. 15 minutes later she still had not returned with my beverage or to take my order. Despite making eye contact with her and other staff multiple times, I was wholly ignored. I eventually left and went next door to Show Me's where I received much better service. What a shame, because the menu looked good, I just wasn't willing to sit around all day being ignored. If they would have acknowledged me and said "be with you in a minute" this would be a different review, but they didn't seem to care at all.

We had a great experience at Black Bear Diner! We had a surprise visit from out-of-town family members, so we had a large group to accommodate at the peak of the lunch rush. Molly made arrangements for us to be seated quickly in a quiet area, and the service provided by Raven was second to none. Both Molly and Raven checked on us frequently. Oh, and the food was delicious! Thank you!

The lettuce used to garnish our plates was slimy and had black spots all over it. When brought to the managers attention, he said it’s fine, they do that all the time. GROSS Our waitperson and the manager were rude about it. I won’t be coming back.

There are wilted and slimy pieces of lettuce placed on our plates. My son ate a bite of it before we notice. Manager was not very concerned and saw nothing wrong with slimy, gross, wilted lettuce. Did not resolve the issue. No concern for the health of the customers. Took 3 dollars off our check to "conpensate" I have worked at Black Bear Diner before and this was a horrible experience. I will not be back. I wish I could post a picture in my review.

The lettuce that was used to garnish our plates was slimy with black spots on it. When informing the manager, he said they serve that lettuce all the time and said it was fine with the black spots on it. FINE??? GROSS! Would you put slimy, black lettuce on your plate? He gave us a 10%discount which amounted to $3.59. The waitress, Grace, was rude and not friendly at all. I will not be eating there again.

They have great mimosas ,vanilla cold bree and pancakes!

Black Bear diner definitely gives you generous portions. The atmosphere is full of black bears. Very cute. The food was excellent. And the service was excellent. would totally recommend

I work a couple of miles from the St. Charles location. Usually when I feel like getting DoorDash, I wind up ordering from Black Bear. I've raved to everyone that the food is very delish and their portions are amazing.
Untill today.
For some reason I woke up wanting a hamburger for breakfast. Black Bear Diner to the rescue!! Except... when my order arrived.. the Bacon Bleu Burger & side of onion rings left a bit to be desired.
Is it just me or should an order of onion rings consist of at least a few more rings than just five!?! 🥲

But in fairness... the side of bacon ranch dressing was yummy and the burger was not too bad. 🥰

Tried $10 cheeseburger 2 weeks ago, bun seemed to be left over from week before. Burger was over cooked…very hard, tasted old.
Today we decided to try again, $10 breakfast meal deal, sandwich was barely warm, cheese was cold it didn’t melt or even soften up. Potatoes were cold. Had to send back.
And they don’t tell you about the extras they put on the sandwiches, guacamole lettuce mayonnaise?.

Food and service were great. They were having issues because their register went down. They got it up and running, but someone (other customer) was VERY unhappy about it and was causing a commotion.
