Our first impression driving up was that we were about to have a unique and memorable experience at The Tavern. The food did not disappoint and the service at our table was excellent. The only criticism I would give is when we walked in we had a few minutes to wait for our table and we felt like we were outsiders at the bar. We were going to get a drink and sit by the fire but it took awhile for the bartender to stop talking to what appeared to be regulars and wait on us. We did finally get drinks and sat down. The other thing that really struck us was how the decor seemed like an afterthought and the items looked like they were picked up at a yard sale for out dated restaurants. I pictured since it is an old rustic cabin it would be decorated with similar decor. Our table wobbled terribly and was very small and the chairs were stained and uncomfortable at the fireplace with a hodgepodge of mismatched cabinets packed in around them. We will probably return for the excellent food sometime but for the price it was not the atmosphere I would have expected.

Our favorite place at the lake. Service is great, they treat you like family. Best food in the area.
made the long trek to get to the restaurant only to find it closed, won't attempt to come back to a place that doesn't update their website .rude

My husband and I are newly full-time residents of the Lake and have been wanting to get here to try their food. We saw the post for the Valentine's Day special dinner and decided to try it as part of a fun event experience. Not only was our server, Mia, wonderful, but it was great getting to meet the "man behind the menu". John was kind, courteous, and genuinely cared about our experience.I wish I could say that something (anything) was wrong with our meal because now I'm going to want to go all the time! We had the (special menu items) Crawfish Croquettes, Seafood Bisque (OMG was this good!), Arugula pear and pecan salad, crab-topped Filet Mignon, Pistachio encrusted seabass, and mashed potatoes, broccolini, and asparagus. The steak was cooked to absolute perfection, the seabass was thick, juicy, and flavorful, and the mashed potatoes must have something delicious added, like garlic butter or blue cheese, because they were absolutely delightful. The veggies were crisp but not undercooked (Yum!).For dessert, we had the flourless chocolate torte (Also OMG so good - this is a diet wrecker for sure!) and crème brûlée. My only wish was that the crème brûlée be served in a shorter dish so that the crisp top and creme ratio was better, but it was still amazing. We topped it all off with chocolate martinis. Their chocolate is incredibly rich and flavorful!Overall, we had an amazing experience and will be back for both the Sunday brunch and regular dinner! Thanks for a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner and huge kudos to the staff for organizing and running a wonderful evening on a holiday!Parking: Parking is a gravel lot and is a little difficult to maneuver around. Recommend getting there before dinner rush so you won't have any trouble.

What a cool place at the lake to get amazing food. Non smoking backwoods cabin vibe! Nice variety of menu items for all. We had the pork chop last trip and last night the Wagyu beef double burger and fries. Phenomenal experience both times. Be sure to get reservations as it’s a popular place with limited seating. Decent bourbon selections also ?. We will be back!!!

So many good things to say about this restaurant. My in-laws treated my husband and I to dinner here last night. From the moment we walked in, we felt at home. The atmosphere was great. Not long after we sat down, the chef came and went over the daily specials. He then came back after dinner to see how everything was. The filet was so tender and seasoned/cooked perfectly. We all shared the butter cake, also delicious. We had a great experience!

Met the owner and executive chef John during our dinner. We came in from Chicago just to try this place. Heard it’s one of the best in America. Started off with tomato bisque, very fresh, savory and homemade. My boyfriend had the hog chop which he then said, it was full of flavor and delicious (Please note: he is picky and critiques food often, professionally). I had the chefs special which included 2-4 oz filet medallions and they were some of the most tender filets I’ve had, loved that!John made a great impression and shared a story about how he opened up one of the few Michelin star restaurants in chicago a few years back, which was really cool. Will definitely recommend and hope to get a chance to dine in again

We went out on New Years Eve. We brought our daughter with, like we always do. The restaurant had a special menu which intrigued my husband and I. I asked the waitress if there was any way to get just buttered noodles? She asked how old my daughter was. I was ready to say 3 if it got her buttered noodles. It was no big deal. This place is amazing. It was a very loud. Delicious on any account. The owner/chef made his rounds. It was special.
