Umi Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar

I ordered beef fried rice and I got an order or about 75 percent rice and 25 percent onions. Raw onions, I am sick and usually this is the perfect sick meal but it was so potent with onions it was intolerable. I do not recommend

Service was great, I tipped well. Food was sub-par. We arrived for an early dinner at 5:00pm. It was very clear that the Shrimp fried rice we were eating was from the previous night. Rice was dry and tough, so was the shrimp. Rolls were freshly made but bland.

Whether we’re in Starkville or Columbus UMI’s is our go to place, whether we’re having a light lunch or want dinner and a show! We love it and the kids love it even more! The staff is always so wonderful, the chefs are awesome, and the food is delicious and we always leave with to go boxes and extra yumyum sauce. We’ve never had bad service or a bad meal at UMI’s.

There was a roach crawling out of my avocado salad.
Absolutely disgusting. After telling what I think was the manager or lead shift, she grabbed the bowl walked off quickly. Came back apologized, offered another and said it was comped off the bill plus discounted some of the rest of the bill. The server didn’t return until we had card out to pay & waiting.
I didn’t eat anything after the fact. That is absolutely disgusting. The whole bill should have been comped.

Sushi is great hibachi sucks it's very bland and they over cook the shrimp and steak!!

The food is good. The atmosphere is good. But they really need to keep rude people in the back doing something different because taking orders correctly, and being kind to customers isn't everybody's thing. To get my take out order wrong. Then be rude to me and throw my receipt down for me to sign while rolling her eyes could of really got some feelings hurt. But I let it slide that time. I've never had this problem before. And I eat there regularly. Do better. Rude people will hurt your business no matter how good the food is.

This is a great place with great food. The closing from 230 to 430 is a little inconvenient if you have a late lunch. But overall nice place. The booth seats are a little old and uncomfortable.

This is the reason I gave this a 1 star! We go to Umis every weekend pretty much! This place has the best food, managers and waitstaff! We went in tonight and noticed a new manager! We didn’t really pay much attention to her until I heard her telling customers to come inside and close the door! Wow!! How rude and very unprofessional! I have never heard anyone working there talk to someone like that! I was shocked! That’s not how you keep your customers! You do not demand them to do something! Not sure if she should be in charge and running a restaurant if that how to talk to your customers!
