An amazing choice for real flavor and family style vibes.

I loved Shan (best food I’ve had) but over the few years they’ve been open, they’ve removed more and more of their gluten free options. When I first went there, I could have multiple apps and dishes (their Lamb Massaman curry was amazing, sad to see that one go!) but last time I looked, they’d removed even more of their gluten free options. It has become less allergy friendly and in turn, it is no longer a restaurant I’m eager to go to.

Amazing. I wish we could go every night. Everything was incredible, beef salad, green curry, lamb skewers and earth’s three treasures were standouts.

Absolutely some of the best food in Bozeman. Unique, full of flavor, and paired with a beautiful atmosphere. Every bite was an experience. I’ve been to Michelin-star restaurants, and the uniqueness of flavors and ambiance here were comparable, if not better. Our waitress was wonderful, offering thoughtful recommendations and making kind conversation between courses. We will certainly be back to try more of what Shan has to offer!

Unsure why this is so highly rated. The service was very good but the food was not. The food was lacking any real flavor. The good: cucumber salad and napa cabbage. The unforgettable: lamb dumplings (why is this so popular?), sticky tamarind ribs, chili oil and tres leches cake (dry!). The way too spicy hot: lazi-ji chicken wings. In the server's defense, he did tell us they were spicy. In our defense, since all the other dishes lacked any heat we figured we could handle it since we like spice. We were wrong and we could not eat them as they were very spicy. The food did not justify the cost of the dinner. I do not recommend this place.

One of the best restaurants in Bozeman. Dishes came out quickly, service was excellent and we thought the prices were reasonable. We will most definitely be back!

Not from Bozeman and just stumbled upon this amazing place. The food was delicious, and the service was superb. Everything we tried, as I do recommend ordering to share with whomever you go with, was next level flavor. Care and attention are given to not just the presentation but to the flavor and complexity of each dish. We were lucky enough to have a front row seat at the bar to watch the chef and his team cook while we ate.

Their approach to making food was a craft of heart. The chef (I’m thinking also owner?) even came over at one point to see how we were enjoying everything - it looked as if he did that for almost every guest/party there. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for a great eating experience in Bozeman.

Probably the best restaurant in Bozeman and on par with many of the Asian restaurants I’ve had in cities, including NYC.

Great food. Larger portions I’d say, so don’t over order unless you want leftovers :) Made some new American friends at the counter last night and had a lovely, hilarious server. Great night!

5 stars are not enough. Seriously in love and hooked on Shan. I have been 3 times and everything I have eaten has been the best. This is now our permanent date night location and have no desire to go anywhere else. Quality, amount of food, and price are all perfect. We love sitting at the bar and receive great service.

Just, wow! The atmosphere, the service, and the food. Such a delight! Make yourself a favor and book a table here whenever you find yourself in Bozeman. Best curry and cucumber salad I had ever had.

It is an elevated food experience. If you can go, try as much as you can to find your favorites. There will be spices.

I had previously dined at Shan in March and it was exceptional. I recently took my mother who was visiting town and I cannot express through a single review how delicious our meal was. I feel it is not often I get to eat a dish (let alone three!) with so many different flavors that does not end up tasting muddy. I am sure we looked like we were not enjoying our meal as we were silently shaking our heads the entire time. But we were simply blown away and quite speechless. On top of all of that, we shared a three course meal, left for under $70.00 after tip, and definetly ate more than we needed.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I am disappointed in myself it took me 9 months to come back.

Delicious food, great setting with a kind and helpful staff. Will go again. Do recommend, better experience if you make a reservation especially if more than 2-4 people.

We were so excited to try Shan after hearing it was a James Beard finalist and had been anticipating our reservation for weeks — but the experience fell far short of expectations.

When we arrived, we stood unacknowledged for the entire duration of ABBA’s Dancing Queen. The hostess saw us, offered no greeting or “I’ll be right with you,” and finally seated us next to the host stand after several awkward minutes. I chalked it up to a bad day — until we watched her warmly greet every other party that followed. She never made eye contact and was curt during each check-in. After a while, I started to question my sanity and wondered if we had doppelgangers around town treating people like crap and we were getting the backlash.

The food came out in no clear order — whatever was fastest for the kitchen (we were informed this is how it would be but hadn’t realized how it’d impact the experience). The smoked tofu was delicious (more like raw tofu in a smoked sauce), the tamarind ribs ranged from tender to inedibly dry, and the chicken curry noodles were fantastic but hard to share (not sure why this was recommended as family style) and followed immediately by the appetizer chicken wings (tasty). And as we snacked on those our noodles turned to cold mush.

All the while, loud 80s dance pop blared so intensely that conversation was nearly impossible, especially beside the enthusiastic noises from the host stand. It was anxiety inducing and gave me the skedaddles while I tried to figure out which plate was getting weirder faster.

The food had promise, but the cold service, chaotic pacing, and jarring atmosphere made the experience feel unwelcoming. It sounded like and must be a great Bozeman offering according to the rave reviews, but we must have gotten the Friday night B team. Hopefully we can come back someday and get equal treatment and courtesy.
