The food at Shan rivals the food I’ve had at some of the best Asian restaurants in NYC, San Fran, and even Malaysia. Fresh, full of flavor, creative, and a fun environment.

Very decent Chinese food, which was surprising to me. The dishes on the menu and ingredients they chose were very thoughtful. Recommend everything. Make sure you show up early (probably before 6 pm) to get a seat at the bar or make reservations weeks ahead.

I have, on few occasions in my travels come upon places that I have enjoyed so much that I've second guessed leaving them the stellar review they deserve; this has always come from a selfish side of me. I mean, why would I want to share a hidden gem with anyone, I want it all for myself, sharing it will undoubtedly lead to more people going there and limiting my access to it. Be that as it may, Jarrett and staff at Shan deserve the 5-star review I give them. I thoroughly, and I mean thoroughly enjoyed the pale ale on tap, the lamb dumplings starter followed by the Chicken Khag Soi so much I could not help myself from sharing my delight with all of you. Five stars and two thumbs up Shan!! Looking forward to my next visit to Bozeman.

We really wanted to try this restaurant. We arrived somewhat early on the weekend but were told they were booked for the entire night. I'm giving it 2 stars, but hope to update my review one day after having a meal, because we were surprised we couldn't be seated even with an long wait for instance and especially because the music was so loud in there we could hardly hear the hostess speaking and couldn't imagine trying to have a conversation while eating our dinner or having a more relaxed time there. Not sure why so many restaurants have to ruin the atmosphere with such loud music! It's not a night club.

tl;dr The food was amazing. Will definitely order take-out from here again, but it's unlikely we'll dine in.Let's start with the food. We ordered the Chicken Khao Soi and the Massaman Curry of Lamb (with the Tres Leches for dessert). Overall, the food was amazing--This is certainly a one-of-a-kind find. The menu offers a unique take on this cuisine, and I have a feeling there isn't a bad thing on the menu; I'm excited to try more. For both main dishes, they were both familiar and new in ways that really worked. This menu has obviously been constructed by a chef with a deep experience of both the Asian cuisine, but also the Montana roots it's trying to connect to. The Tres Leches wasn't bad, but it felt uninspired compared to the rest of the meal.Additionally, I was surprised by the price. For such a unique menu and a great meal, this was an AMAZING value. One of the problems I've experienced in Bozeman is that it's very easy to pay a lot of money for a bad meal. What a relief to be surprised in the opposite direction for a change. Now for the not-food: we had reservations for a Tuesday evening. We checked in, and then were told we were going to have to sit at the bar because 'some of the tables aren't getting up'. There was a big table in the corner who was finished eating before we sat down and was still there when we left. We would have enjoyed the experience more if we would have been able to get the table we had reserved. I know it's uncomfortable to ask people to clear the table when they are finished, but for a restaurant that is this popular and busy, that seems like the reality.Additionally, when the waiter gave us an overview of the menu, there were multiple things that were unavailable. He told us that if we wanted those 'you need to get in here before 5 o'clock'. I think I would be more understanding if it been a crazy day and those items just weren't available or it was seasonable etc., but if those are your top items, and this is a daily occurrence, make a plan maybe? Who's making it dinner before 5PM on a Tuesday? The restaurant is small and intimate (good vibes), but the music was much too loud. It was difficult to have a conversation, much less hear the waiter.All-in-all, the food itself was without issue (which is undoubtedly the most important thing), but the experience still had a little bit of catching up to do. We will definitely return for the food, but we'll probably get it to-go and skip the restaurant.

Excellent service, even on a wait we felt taken care of and we were sat very soon after. Great selection of food, and drinks. Highly recommend.

Quaint, small location. Food is very good. Unique. Understandable why it's up for awards. Service was good.

Almost don't want to post how wonderful my experience was as it's already difficult to get reservations. The lamb dumplings, coconut tofu curry and tres leches cake were phenomenal. Kudos to Shan for the combination of flavors, service and laid back atmosphere.

Smaller space than I expected, but utilized very well. I really enjoyed the space and atmosphere. Flavors were more delicate and thoughtful than any Chinese or Thai flavors I've experienced in the mountain west anywhere. Probably the best restaurantin Bozeman.

The size of the restaurant is small but the food and service is phenomenal. I’ve recently moved to South Dakota from Florida and I have yet to find ANY restaurant that cooks with flavor and uniqueness until Shan. I sat at the bar and was able to see the head chef and the rest of the team really put effort into each meal and making sure it was delicious. The chicken khao soi had amazing curry. I’m usually not one to like curry at all but it was phenomenal.I also had the chicken two way and I have no complaints at all. The sauce is spicy but worth it.I will definitely be coming back!Thank you!

This place is unbelievable. We've been back regularly since our first visit when they opened and have been blown away each time. Without a doubt the most unique and delicious food combinations in the area. The dumplings, larb, wings, chicken khao soi, and whatever they have on special are a must! In fact, try anything on the menu and I assure you'll be happy.
