Unfortunately, quite an underwhelming experience. The place itself is charming. All 3 main course dishes arrived cold, and took around 5 minutes for the host to locate our waitress to help. The food was returned to us warmer, but still not as you would expect. Aside from this, the food was good, but nothing to phone home about… though there isn’t a great deal else in the village to pick from. Waitstaff were friendly, but the service was poor. The entrees weren’t cleared until the mains were placed in front of us, we had to ask for cutlery and napkins, and waited 10 minutes for the table to be cleared afterwards. All in all, not too great for the price paid.

We ended up stopping at this restaurant unexpectedly. It was on the side of the road and we found it to be very interesting. We had a group of eight people, and they were very accommodating to us, the food was amazing, the service was exceptional, and the atmosphere was very unique. They have a lot of decorations on the walls that are entertaining and worth a look around. We would recommend this restaurant to everybody.

A group of friends stayed in Cooke City to fish the park. We ate at the cafe 4 out of 5 nights. The food, service and atmosphere couldn’t be better for Cooke City. Get there early and get on the list if you want a table. It seems most popular for dinner. The owners daughters and other staff really hustle to take care of everyone and make the experience the best it can be. Eat dinner here when in Cooke City, you will be happy.

We stayed in Red Lodge Montana we're on our way to the park over the Beartooth pass stopped in here and ate lunch absolutely fantastic and the smoke trout you have to hurry up and get it but it was the most delicious thing we've eaten in a while we were there June 12th 2025

Absolutely terrible experience!! By far one of the worst (if not the worst) experience I have ever had at any restaurant. My wife and I came with family and drove through Yellowstone. After a long day, we stopped in Cooke City and decided on the Beartoothe Cafe.
I opted for the Buffalo burger, with others in our party having salmon with zucchini and squash, another having ribeye steak with rice, and another with bbq ribs. The ribeye steak was cold. The rice was cold. The salmon was cold, the zucchini and squash were tough and cold. The buffalo burger was bland. And finally the bbq ribs were also just awful and bland. It was unreal how bad the food was at this place!! The salmon and steak were asked to be warmed up. The food was returned about 5min later with barely ANY change in the temperature. The steak was barely warm but looked well done somehow. The salmon was barely warm as well. And the zucchini and squash were now more tough than they were before. It was like the vegetables weren’t even cooked and just cut raw. Do these people know how to cook food?? And how soon was this food prepared for it to be cold? The steak was thick! It’s going to take a long while for that to get cold.
It’s frustrating to have your food messed up repeatedly, but to add insult, the food was expensive! Not even remotely worth the price to begin with, much less after all this…
I’m not a traveling food critic. I don’t make any money doing reviews. So if I take the time to post a review, it’s either really good or really bad. This one was unbelievably really bad! I would never recommend this place to anyone! I even stopped and talked to a woman and her son looking at the outside menu and strongly discouraged them from eating there based on our experience just prior. It was just that bad.
Overall, this place is a disaster. There are other places to eat in Cooke City and while we didn’t eat at them on this trip, there is no way it could be worse than the Beartoothe Cafe. Avoid this place at all cost, unless you just really want cold, tough, and bland food that is really expensive. 0/10 stars

Came here a few times for dinner while staying in Cooke City. Both times we got there right before a big rush which seemed to come and go. There's about 10-12 tables inside and 3-5 tables outside, so seating came be limited.
I believe the server's name was Sidney and she did an amazing job. Very helpful in explaining the menu, making good food and dessert recommendations. We tried many different items and all were good. The starter salad was very big. We tried everything from Salmon, Trout, Steak, Lasagna, Lemon Cake, Ice Cream, Cookies, etc. Favorite meal was the Trout and definitely the Lemon Cake for dessert.
Good food and service with a very home cooking feel.
