My favorite restaurant! ONLY place I take out of town guests or celebrate events. Warm, small, tucked into the trees, view of the mountains and wildlife. Salad bar and homemade bread the best,Small menu but first class. Owners create wonderful ambiance and are so welcoming. Go there! Its worth it and you will return!

Very limited options for the south end of the bitterroot valley. The Broad Axe is by far the most well ran and exceptional food we have encountered. Would recommend them to any one.

this is my favorite restaurant in montana. I have been eating at the broad axe since i was like 2 and i am 16 now. it’s such a cute restaurant and has a cozy vibe to it and it’s in the middle of nowhere and it’s so quiet. the owners are so nice and my family is really close with the owners. their food is so good and i would definitely recommend going here!

While fishing the West Fork of the Bitterroot River I met a very nice retired couple who said they had reservations at their favorite restaurant and told me it's location. I was intrigued and went looking for it along the river and through beautiful meadows, farmland and valleys. When I arrive they had just been seated and invited me to join them for dinner. After helping ourselves a the salad bar and with freshly baked bread two of us had filet steaks and one the salmon. We shared an excellent bottle of red wine of their choosing. They enjoyed homemade desserts while I finished my wine. The atmosphere, service by the wife/owner and food were all excellent. My steak had great flavor and could almost be cut with a fork. I took 1/2 with me as my portion was too large for one meal. Since I was paying only for my meal the price was less than anticipated. I forgot to share cost of the wine but wish I knew the label as I would like to purchase more. We did not see any big horn sheep which normally visit the grounds or are viewed on the hill across the road. I did however stop for whitetail deer on the road to the restaurant. Excellent food and new friends in a wonderful setting with great hosts !!! A perfect ending to another perfect day in Montana. Richard

I love it, working in the kitchen, cooking, washing dishes, keeping the wheels rolling..lol..seriously tho, my family has owned this place for almost 40 years, it's a true mom and pop place. It's absolutely beautiful and I love it there, it's my favorite place to get away from it all and just relax. I highly recommend checking it out, it's not super fancy because that's not the intention, walk out the door of any cabin and just look around, it's clean and comfortable and the food is great!!
