Jesse Pepper's Smoke Shack

We placed a large take out order for our big group. Lilly communicated thoroughly with my wife to make sure we got what we wanted and that they could accommodate on a busy Saturday.
So, we got to try a bit of the whole barbecue side of the menu. I’m a barbecue snob, but the quality goes well beyond great smoked meat. Every single item was truly a top notch representation of what it should be. Then you might catch a peek of the desert counter and it looks like a high end bakery. Because it is. The whole thing is pretty impressive by any restaurant standard. Great job and thanks for making 12 hungry skiers happy.

Hands down, the best BBQ I’ve ever had! The meat was perfectly smoked, tender, and packed with flavor. The sauce had just the right balance of sweet and tangy, and the sides were just as good. You can tell they put real care into their food. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to!

Best porking of my life.

We got there right when it opened and there were already people sitting at tables. We knew it was going to be good.
I got the BBQ platter (and added four ribs) to have a meal later for dinner. Turns out I’ll be eating off that platter for days! Tons of food. I was speechless when the server set the massive plates of food down on the table.

You can taste the love! The ribs were fall off the bone. Brisket was moist - not dry at all. The pulled pork portion was massive. Huckleberry BBQ sauce was unique and I couldn’t get enough of it. There were two other BBQ sauces with my meal - I appreciated the options.
Big corn bread muffin with butter. Large portion of toasted purple potatoes and orange carrots.
My Mom got the pork tacos, she liked them but said they needed a little flavor so she added some BBQ sauce to them.
My Dad and husband got the half rack of ribs served with fries, cole slaw and a gigantic roll with cinnamon butter. They enjoyed their meals.
All of us left with to go boxes.

The FIRST thing I saw were the gorgeous desserts. I wish I would have had room to try one. Will definitely be stopping in to get one to go when I travel through WSS again.

Yall you must stop here if you’re in white sulfur. As a native Texan I thought this BBQ was amazing. Which you don’t commonly come across in Montana. We got the sampler platter (which is enough to feed at least 3 people) and loved everything on it. I can’t believe I am saying this but their ribs might be some of the best I’ve had. The people who own it are amazingly kind and so was the wait staff. HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING HERE!

We stay in White Sulphur a few times each year and ski up the road at Showdown. We've always enjoyed our stays in White Sulphur b/c we don't have to drive all the way back to Livingston (where we live) if we want to ski a couple days in a row and we can soak in the hot springs. BONUS!

We've tried to grab dinner at Jesse Pepper's a few times in the past, but our timing has been off. I'm happy to say, however, that during our last stay in White Sulphur (December 2024) we were able to enjoy some BBQ (and other delicious treats). We were a group of about 10.

The service was exceptional. We didn't have a bunch of special requests, but the ones we did have were honored (without any fuss). The food was delicious... everything... every plate.

My only warning: most everything that we ordered could have been split between 2 people. The portions are beyond adequate... so bring a friend, especially if you're not a big eater.

Everyone we came into contact with was exceptionally friendly and kind. So, if you're looking for dining options in W.S.S., do yourself a favor and move Jesse Pepper's to the top of your list.

Back in town for elk season and hope tobget a great meal this week. 2 years ago I visited this establishment and the food was excellent. 99% of the restaurants in the country dont know how to make simple chili. This place is in the1% category. I make my own and am quite particular. Another time I got the ribs, and they were excellent too. I wholrhesrtedly recommend this place.
