Beautiful beach and the massage was amazing. The drinks were wonderful. Even had a margarita to go. Way better than the cruise port!

A great location away from the cruise port. The minute we got to the beach someone sat us down and made sure that we had everything we needed. I asked for tacos de Pastor, and he told me not to worry and brought a plate right to me!! A great addition to our vacation!!

30 dollar drink package become 50 with the tax and un volunteers tip and still expect a waiter tip.Beef more expensive than the ship or USA.Water and sand not very good. I would not go back to the beach and stay at the port area or ship.

The vendors that rented us golf carts guided us to Oxtankah for access to the beach, a free alcoholic drink or shot of tequila per person (10 of us), beach chairs, and kayaks. As soon as we parked, we were escorted to Oktankah and we asked for 3 margaritas - they were the worst margaritas I've ever tasted as the bartender made it with orange juice (not orange liquer). After our bad taste with a simple cocktail that's a staple of Mexico, we decided to just not eat there. We stayed for a little while for the kids to play and the beach started to become overcrowded. There were two kayaks and maybe 80 people in their part of the beach. At this point, we collected our items to leave. The waiter gave me a bill for $65.00 and I asked for what? Long story short, he brought me a large margarita instead of the complimentary margarita - I didn't pay for it and told the manager that they need to figure it out with the golf cart vendor because they're not honoring what they told us. They should've brought us the complimentary drinks instead of the "large" margaritas that weren't considered complimentary. It's unfortunate that this happened to us, but they probably take advantage of the tourists.

At the cruise port, a group of individuals approached us, offering a taxi ride to Oxtankah. We simply wanted to be dropped off at the beach to relax. However, they informed us of a mandatory $15 entrance fee, and the meals there were outrageously expensive. We ended up just enjoying the beach and then walked a few blocks to dine at the Krazy Lobster. To our surprise, we later discovered that we had been overcharged with that entrance fee. Unlike the surrounding restaurants, none of them required an entrance fee; you could freely access the beach as long as you dined at the establishment. It felt like quite a scam. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DON’T GO HERE!

Before visiting Costa Maya for the day as a cruise port, we did some research and decided to explore on our own. We were excited to see the “quaint” fishing village described by multiple reviewers. As we waited to hail a taxi, we met a “gentleman” bearing a shirt with the TripAdvisor logo. He sold us an all inclusive pass at the Oxtankah restaurant and beachfront resort which was to include a non alcoholic beverage, beach loungers, table and umbrella. There was nothing resort about the restaurant. The beach loungers were set up right next to tables where people were dining. The beverage looked like muddy water. There was nothing “quaint” about the area…peddlers continuously accosted us and were hawking mass produced, non local junk. The water was beautiful, but the swimming area was partitioned off into small fish bowl like sections. There were no fish to see while snorkeling and not enough space to kayak. Fortunately, we the prices were so high at the restaurant that we were smart enough to cut our losses and not sink any more money into a place that was a complete dump. The $60 cab fare and $90 resort fees were upsetting, but not as disappointing as the time that was wasted. A much better bet is to stay in the port of Costa Maya and enjoy some food and beverages by the pool.

SCAM. AVOID. 5.00 for a bottle of water. 16.00 for a frozen drink. Brought double the food ordered so we had to pay more - had ordered one chips and salsa to share between the 2 of us. 3 alcoholic drinks, 2 bottles water, 2 orders chips and dip came up to over 100.00! We thought the total was in pesos! The waiter went and got a “manager” who then told us he’d charge us 80.00 and no tax. ? There wasn’t a menu with water/soft drinks listed. We wanted proof - pretty sure the menu provided that listed only alcoholic drinks and food was special for tourists (jacked up prices). I asked a fellow American diner on the way out how much she was being charged for water - 3.00! Do not bother with these scammers - go to the Krazy Lobster a little further down the block.

Came here from Wonder of the Seas. Was charged $20/per person to go, which was relatively inexpensive compared to everything else. We get there and it’s a little strip of beach to swim in. A LOT of vendors approaching you while trying to relax on beach (around 15 people in a 3 hour span) A man was even pushing a special needs person, pan handling for “rehabilitation”. Ordered drinks and food; it was okay. Total came to $67. The waiter pretty much begged us for cash to pay. He then took my husband to a sketchy man who swiped our card to give him cash and he charged us $60 extra to do so: I would not recommend going off the beaten path with this “excursion”.

Scam. They tried to charge us double when the bill came. We went and asked another table for their menu and everything was less than half. They then tried to say there was a menu for locals and one for Americans (which we arent). Stay aware not worth the scam.

We landed at this place and felt very comfortable from the onset. Very friendly staff, prices were mostly reasonable (a grilled fish was very pricy though) but everything you could do at Mahahual. Food, drinks, massage, beach and all of the souvenir vendors come to you.

October 2019, traveled with Carnival and instead of paying for an excursion we booked outside.. still cheaper than a carnival priced visit, but be careful.Beach is CROWDED and this location has A LOT of solicitor's, including small children making leaf art and constantly approaching you.. dont forget women offering massages and hair braiding.Cool thing is there is a mini strand like shopping center you can walk to buy goods or look at other beach options, in general area is pretty crowded.. be careful.of taxi drivers, some will try to overcharge you or claim they cant provide change, just walk off and ask another.. suddenly change will appear.

We took the taxi at the port. Go past the shops until you get outside the port. We bought day pass for $30 a piece. Good service and drinks. All you can drink. The food was extra. Cane was awesome. I am rating this 4 based on the area. It’s a small beach in Costa Maya so don’t expect Aruba. These people were nice food and drinks good. Good luck.

Do you like beer and Mexican food? Then with an added view of the sea this is a great place for you. Note: everyone seems to be selling something to you.
