Place is cool but drinks although great looking lacked alcohol. Waiter was good. Food , 3 shrimp for 30 bucks is sad. Pork belly dinner was tiny more like an appetizer. Salmon dish was really good and creative. The steak taco dish for dinner was pretty good but as I looked down on my third and last taco there was a big worm crawling on top Of it , that kind of ruined it for the group of us. They took it off the bill but we skipped dessert.

Amazing evening out never to be forgotten. The food and service was top level . A special mention for Louis our main waiter who made our private booth experience so good. A little humid but you'll soon forget that.

We have mixed feelings about the experience. On the day of our reservation, the hostess messaged us and offered to upgrade our evening to a private cave for a reasonable price, so we accepted. It was NOT worth the extra money. We felt isolated and alone and forgotten by the staff, the room was very hot, and the fans they had blowing on us made our food go cold before we could finish it. Although the food was excellent and the wait staff were very gracious, it took over 3 hours for two of us to have a meal, and we did not order a lot of food. Twice I had to ask the whereabouts of the cocktail I had ordered. We really appreciated the special dessert for my friend's birthday, but had we known it was coming, we would not have ordered dessert from the menu when asked. We did express all of this with our head waiter after our bill was settled and he said that if we'd told him sooner, he would not have charged us the upgrade fee. We thought that was a nice gesture on his part, but it still would not have changed the experience. As for the cave itself, it was very beautifully lit and decorated, but the restaurant areas were flooded in several places (which we were told was normal when it rained) and in some areas the flooding and dripping water left an unpleasant smell. Oh, and beware of flying bats. Overall, we've had much better experiences elsewhere and would likely not go there again.

This was our second time going to Alux. The hostess asked and wrote down my allergies but when my food came, had I not noticed before I took a bit, I would have gone into anaphylactic shock due to my listed allergies all being on my plate. The steak my dad had was at least 50% gristle.

Amazing dining experience! The staff were awesome very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was beautiful and inviting. It's a little warm and there are bats flying around but they don't bother you. The food was great as well.

This is a most unique and wonderful dining experience. Order a delicious cocktail and explore the cenote. Then sit down and enjoy a flavor filled meal. The staff is very helpful. And don't mind the occasional bat! An absolute must if you are near Playa del Carmen.

My husband and I just came back from ALUX (pronounced ALOOSH) in Playa del Carmen. It was certainly an experience. We think hotels in the area should maybe give coupons or something for 20% off, so all tourists can visit this unique eatery. You are sitting inside a real cave, complete with dripping stalactites/stalagmites. There are literally DOZENS of rooms/niches carved out of this pretty large cave system. Our hostess told us this was a CENOTE, and there is water pretty much around every turn. Service was quite attentive. As we were celebrating my birthday tonight, our server CARLA even brought out a small cake and champagne. They certainly know how to make you feel special. Food is quite varied, from burgers to lobster tail all the way up to Tomahawk steaks! I had jalapeño risotto with lobster, my husband had catch of the day- which turned out to be seabass. At $30 per entree, we found this to be quite reasonable. Where ALUX excels is their drink menu; a veritable smorgasbord of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic concoctions, as well as a decent size wie list await you. If you are in the area, you MUST eat here, an experience not to be missed.

Eating at Alux was one of our favorite experiences in PDC. We went for our anniversary, and it was incredibly delicious. The atmosphere of being in a real cenote cave made for the most romantic dinner. We opted for a private seating area, and I'm glad we did. The "Passion" table had an air conditioner, which was necessary because it's very warm and muggy in the restaurant. It's not uncomfortable, but the individual air conditioning was a great help. The service was outstanding. The waiter was very attentive and spoke both English and Spanish. We ordered a beautiful bottle of wine and enjoyed grilled oysters, surf and turf, and tacos. It was incredibly delicious. The timing was perfect - it was a nice, slow fine dining pace, which allowed us to drink our bottle, talk, and even walk around and explore the cave. We will definitely be back on our next visit. Oh, and we saw bats on our way out, so fun!

Outstanding experience! We celebrated my 50th birthday and this place did not fall short! The food was amazing, the ambiance & service. What a special way to bring in the new year... You must go if in the vicinity, it's truly a once in a life time experience!

I have been here before, so this is my second time. I've braved about it for years. Unfortunately, this most recent experience was substandard. The specials were misleading, I ordered surf and turf, and they charged me for two individual entrées, though they presented it as a special. The lobster was cold, the fillet was overcooked and tough. I felt that the prices were absolutely ridiculous. Compared to the food quality. Though it is an experience and a beautiful atmosphere I would not recommend it again. Maybe go have a drink, take some pictures and leave it at that.

Fantastic service in a very neat original atmosphere. Ricardo was amazing and tentative to our wishes. A little pricey but with it if you're looking to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or whatever. You might just see bats flying around. Make a reservation!

There was a lack of oxygen in the cave making it hard to breathe. Started feeling very sick and had to leave. The music was so loud we couldn't hear the server or each other. The service was not good. The cave was cool to see but the experience was not.

Excellent service, our waiter Karla was awesome and took a lot of photos of our proposal at the maya altar. Food and drinks are extremely overpriced and not that good - wouldn't come back for the food, but the ambient is charming!
