Avalonplaya is a resort with a mixed review from its guests. The service is described as cold, corporate, and lacking in the warm Mexican hospitality one might expect. However, there are exceptions, such as the helpful concierge Juan and the friendly Alejandra in the pool and beach area.
The food and beverages at Avalonplaya are generally praised, with the meals described as very good for an all-inclusive resort at this price point. Reservations are recommended to avoid long waits at the different restaurants, which can be 25-35 minutes without a reservation. The drinks are also said to be good and not watered down.
The beach area is better than expected, with a designated cabana area for Diamond members that offers both food and drink service. However, there is a limit of 4 plates per cabana per day, so guests need to plan accordingly if they intend to spend the whole day at the beach. The general beach area for all guests only has drink service, which can be confusing.
The pool area is where Avalonplaya seems to fall short. There are only 20 first-come, first-served poolside chairs without additional cost, and the rest of the poolside chairs are available for rent in cabanas, costing up to $170 USD per day. This makes it difficult for guests who just want to relax by the pool without being in front of someone who has paid for a cabana.
The spa services at Avalonplaya also receive mixed reviews, with guests reporting that there is little flexibility in the packages and that the staff often says "no" to requests.
Overall, the experience at Avalonplaya seems to depend on the guest's expectations and their membership status. Diamond members who have access to the beach cabanas appear to have a more enjoyable experience. However, for casual travelers or those looking for a more inclusive and relaxed resort experience, Avalonplaya may not be the best choice.
Despite these mixed reviews, the property is described as a lovely one with great facilities and delicious restaurants. The standout staff members, such as Jesus Tico, Omar Guzman, Pedro, Chef Sebastian, and Gilberto, are praised for their exceptional service and attention to detail.
