I’ve never written a review before because I have never felt passionately enough to do so. Cocina de Autor ignited that passion. This CAN NOT be a restaurant with a Michelin star. The food is terrible. The atmosphere is terrible. Please avoid at all costs and have tacos or any other meal literally anywhere else in Mexico.

The food has to be some of the most terrible I’ve had in the entire resort. I went from lavish short ribs with coffee foam and sauce in Piaf(which was extravagant) to overwhelming and honestly disgusting taste profiles in Cocina De Autor. It gave me nausea after I had eaten it and gave a relative a bad stomach ache and ruined their stomach. The mocktails were however perfect, and they nailed it in presentation and most importantly, taste. I hope the Chef changes his taste profiles to be better and learns from this.

I came here with my boyfriend for a special dinner while traveling. This restaurant had just received a Michelin award so we were super excited to give it a try.
To get ahead of a big question, yes you can dine here even if you're not staying at the hotel but it's very annoying to make a reservation and requires a lot of weird hoop jumping.

It's also pretty much impossible to find costs online. I didn't see an itemized receipt but basically it's about $300 USD/$5KMXN a person, without drinks. We opted for a very very very nice bottle of wine which was another $300 USD.

If you can, come and do the wine pairing. We couldn't because of dietary limits which is why we opted for the bottle.

The food was really lovely. I've included pictures of some of the standout courses. They also did a wonderful job working around our allergies including my gluten free needs.

The service was incredible. The sommelier in particular was a real pleasure, and our servers were great as well. A wonderful staff across the board.

After dinner we had a cocktail at the connected cocktail bar and enjoyed the view from the veranda.

Highly recommend if you're looking for a special celebration dinner in Playa del Carmen.

Extraordinary, exquisite flavors, perfect service, extraordinary menu. The chef takes risks and creates different, unique flavors. On the other hand, the service and attention is personalized. 100% recommendable. My waiter is Leonardo.
