The Tomahawk Den

I had an unacceptable experience at Tomahawk, another restaurant within the Banyan Tree Mayakoba. Upon our arrival, the host asked us to wait while he checked for our reservation. However, instead of assisting us, he proceeded to text on his phone—apparently messaging his wife. His dismissive attitude and the faces he made were so off-putting that it made us want to leave immediately. It’s hard to believe that this restaurant is part of the esteemed Banyan Tree hotel. It’s astonishing how this respected Asian hotel chain isn’t receiving the level of respect it deserves in Mexico.Additionally, the pricing at Tomahawk is exorbitantly high, particularly given the quality of the dining experience. Who would want to sit down for an expensive steak when faced with such a sour attitude from the staff? The combination of overpriced food and unwelcoming service severely detracts from the high standards expected at a Banyan Tree establishment. It’s disappointing that this level of service and pricing is associated with such a renowned hotel chain

terrible service, mediocre food and very expensive.

This place has an amazing atmosphere, as well as drinks and service!My filet was perfectly cooked but under seasoned. I would have also preferred more side options such as truffle mac n' cheese, ginnochi, fire roasted carrots, or even crabcakes. The roasted corn was not even a cobs worth, but it was still delicious.I recommend the passion honey cocktail and the parmasien truffle potatoes with gua jillo dust.I will say that this restaurant is overpriced. We spent a grand for 4 adults and 2 kids menu items. I have been to a lot of steakhouses, and that is nuts, considering we didn't even stay very long.The staff are very nice and the restaurant is gorgeous.

We ate at the Tomahawk at both our first and our last nights at the Banyan tree. The service was superb, the food beyond delicious and the atmosphere eating outside by the canal was romantic and just lovely. Special call out to our waiter Edson, Rafael the chef (thank you for the chocolate cake!) and Diamante, superb bartender. The special cocktails were perfect. (warning, it is a bit pricey)

We made a reservation for dinner at the restaurant, but the hotel concierge after almost 30 minutes of waiting did not allow us entry, claiming that they could not contact reception. Bad experience!

We had such a lovely time at Tomahawk steak house! It was the best steak and chicken (the special) that we’ve ever had. The ambience was wonderful - with birds cawing in the background seated right by the water. The best part was the waiters and staff. Juan Jose and Edson were thoughtful, attentive, and went above and beyond. We were enjoying our baby moon and they magically knew and provided us with invaluable advice and a delicious personalized chocolate cake and mock-tail. We can’t recommend this restaurant enough and are so grateful for the memory we will cherish for a life time.

Excellent dinner at Tomahawk grill! The chefs did a great job. Martin gave excellent recommendations. He knows his craft, and showed that he knew the menu well and what recommendations that pair with different dishes. He created a calm and friendly atmosphere.

Excelente place, excelent food. Service at first little show, after we told them it was perfect and very persinalized. Highly recommended.

We were recently there. At first the service was a bit slow. As soon as we let them know everything changed. Excellent service, spectacular food. Our waitress and the manager on duty exceeded the limits of attention. There wasn't a drink I ordered and they were ashamed and went out of their way to make it up to us for the inconvenience. Even before we went back to our homes, they gave us gifts for what had happened. I have never been treated so well. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Thanks for all the attention.

Service and food fell well below the Banyan Tree reputation. We waited 30 mins for water, was rotated between 5 different servers and our Tomahawk was not cooked at the requested temperature. While the executive chef fawned over a table of friends, he had no idea that other guest had compromising experiences. We spent $400 for dinner (and that is without dessert). I urge you to stay away.

Extremely overpriced meat. In that case you would expect the best but it was average. The Banyan Tree resort is amazing, so are Saffron and Cello restaurants but this one is not good for the price they are charging. Ordered medium well and got medium. Ok. If the filet was 50 bucks, but not for 150! Pass

The Mexican meat medley was full of fat. By the time it was trimmed there wasn't much to eat. And it was priced at $120 USD. I don't feel like I can recommend this place.

Everything we had was good to great but the service was really slow. We finally asked the manager to help us and she took over. For example, 20 minutes to get a couple of beers and glass of wine. Be warned the prices are atmospheric. The tomahawk is something like 220 a la carte and the filet is 120. Wine pricing is beyond what I have ever scene even in NYC.

Stunning property and incredible service! The wagyu rib eye and bone marrow were absolutely out of this world! This is our 6th consecutive trip to Mayakoba and our 2d to Tomahawk Den and we will continue to return. Our server Mayra was our server last year as well, she was exceptional both visits. Dinner in the courtyard is truly an experience, the birds singing and the jungle views are breathtaking. Mayra made some great recommendations and presented us with a lovely cocktail to end the night. Thank you Mayra and restaurant manager for the decadent experience! We will see you next year!
