After staying in high-ranked hotels in Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres, I didn't think I could have a better experience. I was wrong. Casa Altamar is absolute heaven. This oasis of relaxation, beauty and charm is by far the best place I've ever been. The staff is incredibly welcoming and caring, and the hotel itself is just stunning and so comfy. The most beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the best beach and pool, great food.. it was my first time in Mexico but definitely not the last - I have no doubt I'll be back in Casa Altamar. Arturo and his team are absolutely perfect. Thank you so much for everything!
Any number to contact them?
There are a million ways this stay and this experience was perfection!!!! The pictures are spot on; it is PARADISE. They have a sign off the main highway showing where to turn. There is security at the gate. There are quite a few neighboring places along the same beach, but Casa Altamar is supreme. They clean their beach every night, the staff speaks phenomenal English, excellent hospitality, and the food is SO fresh and SO beautiful! We were going to go into Tulum for 1-2 meals, but the restaurant here was so good (with an amazing view ;)) we had no desire to try anything else (3 nights, 4 day stay). Smoothies, fresh fruit, omelette, tacos, pizza, salad, steak, chicken, filtered water, etc. It was very clean! Bottled water provided in room. Now, let’s talk about the snorkeling! OMG. I’m somewhat of a novice to snorkeling, but I’ve seen enough in the last 10 years that this was some of the best!!! It’s a must. They also have kayaks and paddle board for free for residents.
Casa Altamar was a wonderful surprise, a little paradise away from the crowds... with a beautiful beach and very warm water. The hotel is a small boutique family hotel, we enjoyed privacy, tranquility and also met some lovely people while there. The staff were incredible, friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Arturo.
Absolute perfection. Stayed in many hotels in the past, by far exceeded all expectations. The service is phenomenal, the food is absolutely delicious, the drinks were refreshing, the beach is beautiful. Do not hesitate to stay here. It was a week in heaven. Felt refreshed and rejuvenated. Thank you for the staff who made this stay a more than excellent stay!
I had a weeklong stay at Casa Altamar in October 2022 and it was utter perfection--from welcome drink to check out! The people who work there are incredibly warm, helpful, and hospitable. Everything we ate at the restaurant was fresh and fantastic. Drinking my coffee, while looking at the sparkling sea, and listening to the lovely music they played each morning truly felt like Heaven on Earth. In terms of the location, the hotel is far away from the hustle & bustle + glitzy glamour of Tulum Beach--which made it an excellent place to truly soak in the beautiful surroundings and the incredible views. It often felt like we had an entire private beach/pool area to ourselves. Can't complain about that. One day, we booked a beachside massage and it was such a relaxing, peaceful experience. If you're looking for a gorgeous, serene escape--you won't regret booking a stay here! Truly, I can't recommend Casa Altamar highly enough.
Casa Altamar is a beautiful small boutique hotel, right on the beach. We debated staying in Tulum Town or here and so glad we picked this one! Best price we could find for a nice beach hotel in the area, was totally worth it. Beautiful views. Great location for exploring the Tulum area, but you 100% need a car though as it is a little out of the way. There is nothing really in walking distance besides other hotels, a very small shop and a great Cenote - which is definitely worth a visit! Taxis are very expensive in the area so wouldn’t want to have to rely on them. Private beach was lovely, as was the pool. Free use of kayaks and paddle boards also available. The staff at the hotel were 5*, service was impeccable. They remembered our names, room number and drinks preferences at breakfast. They were also happy to chat and have gave us lots of local recommendations for things to do and see. They really were one of the most memorable things about the hotel. Breakfast was wonderful, tried lots of dishes and smoothies and were all delicious. Also ate lunch and the tacos and ceviche were also amazing! The room was comfortable, spacious and had lots of storage. Good air con. Beautiful sea views. Balcony was small though and only one chair so couldn’t sit out there together. Beach towels and beach bag provided was a nice touch. It would have been great if there was a fridge in the room to keep drinks/water cold. Everything was very clean and well looked after. Unfortunately there was one big downside for us, which hopefully was a one off - the week we were staying the restaurant was not open in the evening due to staff shortages, and the drinks service finished at 6 or 7pm. We only found this out the day before we arrived. Whilst I appreciate this couldn’t be helped it did put a bit of a downer on our stay. We chose this hotel partly because of the great restaurant reviews and were hoping to eat there in the evenings, instead we had to find alternatives. There is very little within walking distance for food apart from other hotels, the restaurants at which were just OK, or we had to drive into Tulum. Meant we also couldn’t have pre dinner drinks, unless before 7pm, there was no music in the bar/terrace area and because all the guests had to leave for dinner it was very quiet in the evening with no atmosphere. Just a real shame because the food we had for breakfast and lunch at Casa Altamar was amazing and we would have really loved to try the evening menu. Overall I would definitely recommend staying here though.
I was staying at the place next door and was recommended this restaurant at Casa Altamar…. Wow!!! Despite having all of the beautiful restaurants in short walking distance I kept only coming back to casa Altamar!!! Their delicious meals are simply unmatched but their team is something truly special!!! The guys were so carrying and genuine catering to my every tiny little need !!! And I wasn’t even guest of their hotel! I was a solo traveler but they made me feel so welcomed!!! A special thanks goes to Xavier!!!! I’m so glad we shared the same love for octopus!!! EVERY SINGLE RECOMMENDATION was so spot on!!! Even considering my moods and all haha the first night I was feeling slightly under the weather and asked if they had something soothing!!!! Imagine my surprise when Xavier brought out EUCALYPTUS INFUSED MEZCAL drink!????? More than it was delicious it actually quickly fixed me up!! And all the treats from shef!!! Guys I live in West Hollywood, Ca, I consider myself spoiled, but nothing stands close to the restaurant and the team of Casa Altamar
my new fave spot at Casa Cenote areafood and service is excellent inc massageaffordable beach club day pass is only $35usd pp and a nice pool to cool inkudos to the friendly staff ????
We loved this hotel. The views were amazing and the food excellent. The staff was very kind, attentive, and skilled. A continental breakfast was included, with other options possible for a fee. However, the continental breakfast was plentiful and good, with several types of fruit, toast, and banana bread. For non-breakfast meals and snacks, we particularly loved their guacamole and a non-alcoholic juice drink they serve that has a smoking piece of palm leaf (I think) in it. Delicious! Lunch and drinks are available for purchase on the beach, and the restaurant is open for dinner. They serve complimentary cold water on the beach, too. The beach is quiet and uncrowded, even though there is a beach club that is open to the public (for a fee). The beachfront section specifically belonging to the hotel is small (but more than adequate for the number of guests--loungers were always available), but the beach itself continues in both directions for a long way. There is a dock that extends out past the rocks (and past the sargasso, on days when that is an issue), with steps down into the water and hammocks under a palapa at the end. There is also a pool beside the hotel, right behind the beach. Be aware that taxis into Tulum are expensive (400 pesos one way), and tours will usually charge a bit extra for pickup there We paid 100 pesos extra for pickup for a tour we took. That was far less than a taxi, though. We took a taxi to Tulum to visit the ruins, but other than those two activities, we pretty much stayed at the hotel. If we had been there longer, we'd probably have wanted to do additional excursions, as there is not a lot to do other than the beach and pool. On our first day, we spent a wonderful day at the beach and did some snorkelling. Snorkelling is decent around there, but not spectacular. It was a good place for us to get used to snorkelling again, though, as we don't get to do it very often, and the beach here is sheltered from the heavier surf. There were also kayaks available for us to use anytime we wanted to, but we didn't end up doing this, as we were worried about getting sunburns early in our trip. We had planned to spend our last day at the beach, too, but our last couple of days were very windy and sargasso piled up at the beach. That would be true of any of the hotels right along that coast, mind you, but some might be closer to alternative activities. What we did that day was walk to the very close by Casa Cenote, and we snorkelled there and saw the resident crocodile, Panchito. Then we spent the afternoon at the pool. We thought these were excellent and enjoyable alternatives. So, for us, for four days, Casa Altamar was perfect. We loved that the beach was quiet and uncrowded. Some of the places I'd looked into closer to Tulum, in the hotel zone on the beach, had reviews that mentioned loud music blasting all day. We wanted a quieter experience, and we got that at Casa Altamar. (They play music, but not loudly, and their restaurant and bar closes at 10 pm.) Note that there are no televisions, if that matters to you. Also, it's not uncommon for the Internet to be spotty and for there to be brief power outages. However, based on the reviews I read when I was planning, this is true of other hotels on the coast near Tulum, too. We both felt that this was a place we would definitely return to if we visited this area again. It was perfect for us. If you want to party, look elsewhere. If you want a lovely getaway, enjoying the ocean views and the birds fishing, and relaxing on the beach or at the pool, with the option to do some excursions in the area, book here.

This may be one of my favorite places I've ever stayed and that is because of three main reasons: the food and drinks are incredible, the staff is attentive and amazing, and the property felt very private throughout our stay. The restaurant is incredible and offers a lovely continental breakfast consisting of various fruits, breads, jams, and fresh orange juice/coffee. I highly recommend giving some of their additional breakfast items a try that are on the menu - two of my favorites were the avocado toast (it will be the best you have ever had), and the cacoa smoothie. For lunch we tried several things: ceviche is exceptional - the tempura fish tacos were tasty, the steak tacos also good, quesadillas were fresh and delicious, and the pizza was surprisingly good as well. For Dinner, I have 3 words - Get. The. Brisket. Drinks - stellar. I spent most of the trip with Margarita Altamar's & Welcome Dream's, both tasty and made with a generous pour. There is beach service, which just adds to the relaxation of it all. The hotel offers free kayaks/paddle boards and lifejackets if you want to adventure out to the reef, lots of great snorkeling spots just right off the hotel. The beach may be a sticking point for some, I've attached a photo for reference. It's not your typical sandy beach, so if you are looking for something like that you would be better off staying near the Tulum Ruins and along the busier coast. The beach at Casa Altar is rocky, but they do have a lovely dock that goes out into the water so you can walk in safely. The thing to know is it's only deep in certain parts and you have to get pretty far out there not to be touching any coral. This did not bother us at all because we were more concerned about having a quiet and private beach. You can still get plenty of sandy beach time by traveling over to the various beach clubs further down the coast, most are free you would just need to rent a daybed for the day (average 1000-1500 pesos.) The pool overlooks the beach, perfect size and well-maintained. The rooms are nice and well appointed - pillows are very comfy and goose down. The building itself has some quirks here and there with lights flickering and water taking a little bit of time to warm up when taking showers, but they give you a clear level set on arrival so you know what to expect. Parking is free and there's plenty - huge relief if you plan on renting a car. The sunrises are gorgeous, (photo attached) the suns sets on the other side so you won't see that. You are about 15-minutes from all the hot spots in the popular areas of Tulum Centro, and centrally located to some of the best cenotes (Dos Ojos & Sac Actun) are 20-minutes away. The location was perfect to get to all things - also highly recommend that you ditch the idea of taxis or tour buses, rent a car and explore. We could not have loved our stay more, do yourself a favor and pick this boutique hotel - you won't regret it. Big thanks to Arturo and the entire staff for making it such a memorable trip for us.
A wonderful boutique hotel in Tulum. We recommend room nr. 6 with it’s amazing view to the caribbean sea! We enjoyed the continental breakfast which consisted of lots of fruit, home made granola and fresh bread. We stayed a whole week and enjoyed lunch and dinner in the hotel restaurant. Especially the Churros where to die for! The beach is very secluded and water sport equipment is provided without any extra charge. The only thing we didn’t appreciate was, that the service was not included in the meal prices. Mexico is starting with the same bad habit as in the US.
