🚨 When “20% Tip” Magically Becomes 22.78%… Math Crimes at the Dinner Table! 🍽️✖️➗
So here’s the scam: my bill was $54.38 (with $4.15 tax). The restaurant suggested tips of:
20% = $12.39
18% = $11.15
15% = $9.29
Cute, right? Except… the math doesn’t add up. At all.
A real 20% tip on the pre-tax subtotal of $50.23 should be $10.05. Even if you include tax, it should be $10.87. Instead, their “20%” was actually 22.78%.

The restaurant has been tastefully redecorated - a modern, clean look, with big windows looking out over the pond next door, and a nice outdoor dining area. tasteful, not loud background music. This is definitely NOT a typical tex-mex place. The chef has trained in Mexico, and the dishes are all superbly prepared.
